Posting here for traffic – need help choosing between 2 jobs
So work is currently located 2 mins down the road, 9am – 5pm and every other Saturday (get a day off in lieu for weekend shifts), have a company car but don’t need to do much driving for the job. Like the people I work with, like the office, know my job inside out. Boss is v lazy, unmotivated, hardly ever here, is always off sick or making excuses not to come in, disappears for hours on end. Doesn’t bring much business in. Heard some dodgy things about him from friends that know him (apparently he glassed someone in a pub, threatened someone etc). 90% sure boss is on verge of being dismissed due to the aforementioned. If boss does go, I am 100% sure I will be offered his job. Don’t know what the pay structure is for managers here so not sure what I’ll be offered.
Started looking for other prospects and been offered a job. The pay is £10k more than I currently earn, is working from home with flexi work (v useful as I have 2 DC) and is Mon – Fri with no weekend working. Doesn’t come with a car so will have to shell out for one but would get car allowance and business miles paid. The job would be managing a patch which is located about an hours drive from home. Site visits required regularly, so a lot of driving. Job is along the lines of dealing with anti-social behaviour within vulnerable communities, and during interview was told that getting abuse off vulnerable people is the most challenging part of it. Will admit I can be sensitive and suffer from depression / anxiety (currently medicated) but worried how this might affect my MH.
The job Ive been offered wants an answer ASAP on whether I want to take it but won’t know about current boss leaving until start of Feb.
Pros and cons for both jobs but im thinking maybe its best to wait it out and see what happens with current job? I don’t know if I’ll get a £10k payrise for being made manager here though so could potentially be losing out on good pay.
DH is leaning more towards me taking the new job as I can flexi work so can drop off and collect DC from school, save money on wraparound care and the money is good.
