Which is the best online shopping delivery? Another one leaving Ocado

Sorry AIBU to ask for help on this first world problem.

Decided to leave Ocado, currently have the full smart pass and love the app but it's too expensive and customer service is poor. I've been with them for 10 years + so feel pretty institutionalised!

I occasionally get Waitrose but not a fan of paying for delivery on top of smart pass.

Has anyone left Ocado and found the magic balance between affordability, a decent app and good choice? Our area will be able to get all the major supermarkets.

It's a conundrum. I agree about prices with Ocado but it is possible to Nero it reasonable if you shop sensibly. My problem is all the yummy food means I don't shop sensibly and buy too much M&S.
However I have very few substitutions. Every other supermarket I have used has lots of them and it defeats the purpose if i have to make an additional trip to a physical shop.

Sainsburys, been with them for years and never had a problem. I do think it depends on the size of the picking centre / dark store or which actual store they pick from. Ours is huge and we rarely have substitutions.

I doubt this is the thread for this but I love Asda. Huge amount of choice over a variety of prices. Barely any substitutions made and when they are they tend to be for higher value items at the same cost. Lovely drivers. Easy to report any issues. Delivered all through the pandemic and when I succumbed to COVID I got a same day delivery and they left all the crates with me! Their lidded wok-type pan is one of the best kitchen buys I've ever had (a £12 bargain) and I've also bought bedding and other household items on my grocery deliveries in the past. I've tried others but always come back to them.

I’ve tried them all!
Asda is my favourite, never had a problem with getting a slot or poor substitutions. Massive variety and fruit and veg are really good.
Sainsbury’s and Waitrose are expensive, Tesco is good as are Morrison’s.
Gave up with Ocado when I couldn’t get a slot during lockdown for love or money, despite being a customer for more than 10 years.

I missed Waitrose and priced up an identical shop with them as our regular ocado shop, and it came to more, so we stuck to Ocado.

We probably could pay less with another supermarket but I’m not sure I can face the additional substitutions and issues. Neighbours recently switched from ocado to Sainsburys and their delivery just didn’t turn up in the second week. Apparently the driver couldn’t find the house. My sister in law just had to complain to Tesco for attempting delivery an hour early, and, when she unsurprisingly wasn’t in, just taking her shopping away. Ocado’s customer service is just better.

I use Waitrose,£3 for delivery.

I don’t like the fact they have stopped using bags, takes ages to unpack the crates the shopping comes in.

AwaitingSueGraysInvestigation · 19/01/2022 11:53

I moved to a part of Edinburgh that Ocado doesn't cover, so I had to stop using them.

To be honest the rest are as good/bad as each other. Morrisons and Asda are good for basics but if you need anything even slightly adventurous the range is a bit short. Sainsbury's is OK but round here at least they're buggers for sending me stuff that has really short use-by dates. Tesco is fine but they spam me like nothing else so I stopped using them.

I tend to err towards Waitrose because the delivery guy who works when I get deliveries is so nice! But to be honest I'd go back to Ocado if I could.

pradavilla · 19/01/2022 18:50

Waitrose or Tesco are the best.

Waitrose used to be free delivery so even better. Substitutes are often for larger items and or higher value. Example u order a cream egg they sent u 6pk for same price! U order some pre packed cut fruit none in stock they send u the larger tub at double the price for the same price.

Tesco do similar but not usually as generous with them lol.

I currently use Morrisons and I'm not impressed but I like a lot of their stuff. They sent substitutes every week usually at least 3-4 but lately more 6+ that are always more expensive and u just pay for them at more expensive price. They also turned up 45mins early this wk when I wasn't in. My husband took the order and had no idea what the subs were he asked the driver he just read then out but my dh wasn't sure what they were supposed to be in the first place 🙄 Customer service is usually gd though if u have issues with the food or dates they will refund but u have to email jot as easy as Asda where u tick the items from ur order that u have issues with.

Sainsbury used to give u substitutes at same price of item u ordered but now they give u a voucher to use against future order. Still better than Morrisons though!

So I think I'm going to try Sainsbury's or Morrisons as the main shop (with a delivery pass) and supplement with Waitrose - we occasionally do a Waitrose order anyway as miss some of their products!

Still think Ocado will probably be the best but not sure I want to pay for it anymore - so may as well change now (and sign back up towards the end of the month the year if it hasn't worked out)!

Also another gripe - they really don't reward loyalty so it's not like stopping and starting again is really going to make a difference!

We switched to Tesco and started shopping in store. For 7.99 we signed up to clubcard+ and now we get 10% off 2 big shops a month on top of the clubcard deals it's a bargain

il0vew1ne · 20/01/2022 13:58

I am with Ocado which I don’t use now since they joined with m and s

I am also with Morrison’s which I couldn’t fault until this pass year, all the fresh fruit and veg are nearly always near the end of the use by date, I have even had to throw tomatoes away cause of mould. They substitutions are good.

I am going to try Asda heard lots of good things about them
