To want to go to A&E

I had a tooth out yesterday. The site started bleeding about 10 o'clock last night. I've been nursing service since. No sleep at all. And it's still bleeding. Keeps on clotting and then breaking and starting again. OH thanks is no point in going to A&E. I'm not so sure ... anybody know what the right thing to do here is? 111 said I should go to A&E but I can't help thinking when I get there I'll just get treated as if I'm overreacting.

Have you tried gauze on it? I had an extraction back in November and I had to bite down gently on a piece of gauze until the bleeding stopped. Once the blood clot forms it should stay there unless you're doing something like using a straw or spitting or something that would dislodge it. I wouldn't go to the emergency room for that personally but I would call the dentist first thing in the morning.

Honestly OP - if you are in agony or pain relief not working go to A and E.
For bleeding my dentist got me to screw a tra bag, cool it a bit and bite on it- it worked!

Was it a clinician at 111 that said to go to hospital? I would do as they advised. Does it have a dental department?

I had been doing the gauze all night to no avail. I went in the end and was seen by the dental specialist who packed the wound up and then stitches it up. It was deeply unpleasant but the best thing for it apparently. Currently lying k ok n the sofa sleeping it off. Hurts like hell but it appears to have stopped bleeding and started clotting. The relief. Thankyou for answering xxx

Hope you feel better soon, dental pain is the worst

I’m glad you went! What was your DH thinking of?

This happened to me once and I was up all night. Just bleeding. I read online to try a teabag as the tannin in it helps with clotting. I sat biting teabags all night. Saw the dentist the next morning he packed it with some smelly stuff that helped immensely and X-ray revealed the emergency dentist had cracked my jaw removing my tooth ._. I'm glad you've been been and hope you feel better
