To send out a plea to help rescue dogs

Posting here for traffic. I volunteer at a rescue centre walking the dogs. If you love dogs but can't have one, and enjoy walking, please consider doing this. Just an hour here and there makes such a difference to the lives of these lovely dogs who are otherwise stuck in kennels all day.

I didn't even think this was something they let people volunteer for. Where do I apply?

You just phone your nearest rescue centre and they’ll add your name to the list.

Ours had a 1 year waiting list before covid which they put my name on but when I phoned during covid, they said they’re not adding names till things get better so they’re only using dog walkers they already know.

It probably varies in different areas so worth phoning to see.

Mine has a two year waiting list.

I'd love to OP but all the rescues around me have waiting lists as long as your arm just to volunteer generally, even to clean the runs, let alone be a dog walker.

Volunteer dog walkers are not in short supply, in my experience.

I do think it’s great that the waiting lists are so long- at least the dogs are getting plenty of exercise with people who love dogs.
