To be freaking out over this

I really don’t know if I being over the top or right to be so worried but my 7 year old came out with a sore itchy bump on her lip a couple of days ago. I

Thinking it could be a coldsore I’ve explained we need to not kiss each other and to not touch the sore. Obviously I’m aware this is hard for a 7 year old who has never had to do this.

Shes just kissed her 6 month old brother on the top of his head and I’m freaking out. She realised straight away and I’ve told her not to worry it’s fine just an accident and I know how easy it is to forget etc so she doesn’t worry.

But now I am freaking out about this I’ve read how dangerous coldsores can be to babies is there anything I can do do I need to be calling 111 or anything or is it just a matter of waiting and hoping he doesn’t catch it? I know mumsnet is not a medical board but hoping there’s some parents on here that have either experienced this themselves or have some more knowledge than me 😩

I think as it was just the top of his head he will probably be fine

It's on the top of his head he will be ok. Also what does dd's lip look like now? It may not even be a cold sore.

Cismyfatarse · 15/01/2022 11:11

More likely to be impetigo which is easy to treat (but mildly infectious) and very common. Starts round the mouth (although DD's started on her hands which delayed diagnosis).

Avoid towel sharing etc. DD gave it to nobody and shared a room with her brother at the time. Adults mostly immune and it is really just a nasty rash or like bad chicken pox but in only one or two places.

Thanks for the replies, that’s the thing I can’t be sure it even is a coldsore , it doesn’t look like a typical one but not sure if that is because it’s in the early stages. The itchy tingling and soreness that she has described made me think it was likely.

Have calmed down a lot now it’s just so scary when you read all of the awful stories of baby’s catching it 😭

Just buy some compeed patches and cover the sore with that. Won't do it any harm if it's impetigo or a cold sore.
