No gift- WWYD?

DB lives in Canada. He always sends my kids birthday presents.

Recently DS15 had his birthday and received a present from DB. Three weeks later DD13 had her birthday and didn't receive anything from DB. He's never forgotten before and it seems odd that he would send something to one child then the other. DD is a bit sad about it (not about the gift but feels forgotten).

Tempted to text DB and check whether he sent anything as it's quite possible it's gone astray and he's sitting there wondering why we haven't said thank you. But I feel a bit uncomfortable in case he forgot (possible) or deliberately chose not to (very unlikely).

WWYD?

Message him

flippertyop · 13/01/2022 18:39

He is your brother - surely you can just phone him and ask him?

WheelieBinPrincess · 13/01/2022 18:40

It’s your brother, why are you afraid to ask?

Just say oi did you send anything.

Topbird29 · 13/01/2022 18:43

Just ask him if anything was sent across might be held up in post. There have been loads of issue with post all over the country due to staff shortages. Some people are just getting things from within the UK posted before Xmas. Maybe mention you are checking due to these delays

Darbs76 · 13/01/2022 18:44

Message him, I’d want to know so I could chase it up or if I genuinely forgot I’d want to put it right

errnerrcallnernnernnern · 13/01/2022 18:45

Do you send him presents?

If yes, message him.

sadpapercourtesan · 13/01/2022 18:48

Yeah I'd send a message, if it's out of character for him. Perhaps he's going through a tough time and could do with a chat?

Either way, if you enter into these gift-giving habits, especially in relation to children, you can't really just stop without explanation, or miss out a child. Of course your DD feels forgotten. It's not grabby to bring that up. If there's nothing wrong, and he just forgot, I might suggest not doing gifts any more.

Clarissa76 · 13/01/2022 18:52

Thanks, all. Am over-thinking. I will drop him a line.

I got a Christmas card the other day, post marked 18th December.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 13/01/2022 19:26

Canada post seems to be v slow at the mo. I got xmas cards this week from the UK posted before xmas

stingofthebutterfly · 13/01/2022 19:48

Post is crap at the moment. It was my birthday last week and I haven't received cards from 3 people who I know would have sent them, and one was 2 days late with a postmark of a week earlier. I'm also waiting for something from the US that was posted over a month ago.

I'd just message him though, if he usually sends something.

International mail to and from the UK is really slow at the moment.

I got a Christmas card yesterday (in Sweden) that was posted almost 4 weeks ago yet stuff within Sweden and within the EU is arriving in 3-5 days

roses2 · 13/01/2022 20:13

Did she say thank you for last year's present?

LadyoftheWoods · 13/01/2022 20:21

My Christmas card from my friend in Canada arrived yesterday but was sent before Christmas so agree there might be a delay

SomeFuckingWizardry · 14/01/2022 13:34

99% chance it's just the post. Yesterday I got birthday cards from Australia that were post marked mid November. I had a Christmas card posted to me from London that took 18 days to get here.

nancy75 · 14/01/2022 13:42

Agree with everyone else, probably in the post. Our Christmas cards from Aus arrived on Monday, mil posted them in November!

Hemingwayzcatz · 14/01/2022 13:45

Just send him a message, he’s your brother. Post has been unreliable throughout the pandemic, we tend to get a big bundle of post every few days. It may have got lost or is just delayed, held in customs perhaps? You won’t know unless you ask either way.
