Forgot about job interview

I had an interview a couple of weeks back for a job I think would be really good for me. I don't have much experience in the actual role but enough other experience to be able to develop into it. I seemed to do well as they invited me for a second interview. Only, I forgot about it until an hour after it had ended. Completely my fault and I feel so ashamed and disappointed in myself. I've recently been diagnosed with anxiety and have been so focused on trying to manage that. I thought the interview was a few days later than it actually was and as I started to plan for it, realised I'd missed it. The recruiter has managed to get me another interview with the employer, which I am very thankful for but have I already ruined my chances by not showing up the first time? How do I handle it and give myself a chance of still getting the job?

My DH got a job where he forgot to go to the interview. I think the employer thought that the recruitment agency had screwed up rather than him.

Don't feel bad, OP. It happens more than you'd think.

I would simply - as I am greeting them - say: Thank you for rescheduling; I do appreciate your generosity.

Then go on and shine! Good luck.

I'm part of the recruitment team at my work and I had a "no show" last week. The candidate had been put forward via an agency so I contacted the agency to say she hadn't turned up (on zoom). The agency were very apologetic and said the candidate got the time wrong. I could see the time on the invite, so it was definitely the candidate's error. I agreed to rearrange for a few days later, it can happen.
Strange one though as she didn't apologise, or even mention the previous slot.

If they cared about it they wouldn’t have agreed to see you. Though I would consider why they are so flexible maybe they are struggling to fill the role, remember it’s a two way process

I've read a tip about things like this. Don't say "sorry I missed the last one", instead say "thanks for agreeing to reschedule"

I’m afraid this would really irritate me. When you’ve made a mistake a little humility goes a long way.

I completely agree. The person who was a no show for me, then didn't even mention it when I made another slot for her, was a no. Attitude will at least get you in, or out.
