AIBU to conclude that there is no actual evidence that Carrie Johnson is pulling the strings at Number 10?

I think that the printed media have painted a picture of Carrie running the government behind the scenes to play into the idea of "Poor helpless Boris" being manipulated by a woman. In part, I think that the portrayal of her is misogynistic to an extreme. Perhaps people should conclude that Boris is responsible for his own behaviour, rather than trying to pin it on Carrie?

YANBU. Boris was an arse pre Carrie and to suggest she is behind his ongoing arseholery is misogynist bullshit in the extreme.
His track record speaks for itself and if he were the feckless buffoon the media like to portray him as what does it say about the conservative party members who elected him as leader?

Agreed!

She’s a woman and he behaves badly. So she must be Lady Macbeth controlling her man. A story as old as time. And bollocks.

He’s a horrible man. He’s always been a horrible man. Even his schoolteachers identified that he felt the rules didn’t apply to him.

The main thing I judge his wife for is being with such a morally and physically repugnant man.

Yes, Carrie Johnson's taste in men is very questionable!

She goes to a lot of “meetings which aren’t parties” for someone who doesn’t work there.

WoodSageandSeasalt · 12/01/2022 17:57

I don’t know if she controls him or not but I’m sick of hearing about her and she certainly seems to have influence within the government for someone who’s not elected. It’s bad enough we have to put up with him 🙄

On the one hand, YANBU and it’s just misogyny.
On the other hand, and I think this actually makes the misogyny worse, not better, Carrie was a professional political advisor employed by the Tory party. She has skills and experience, why the hell shouldn’t she have a voice? The unreasonable part is that she doesn’t have an official role, and therefore isn’t either rewarded for her efforts or accountable in any way. And that’s messy and not right.

It's possible that she doesn't currently want an official role at the present time.

I think they are a match made in heaven.

I bet she wishes to shit she'd never heard of Dominic Cummings.

She gets no more shit than Cherie Blair or Sam Cam though.

If you make yourself visible to the Press, the Press will write about you.

As Carrie hasn't made any public announcements, the only negative thing I can say is her choice in men sucks. Apart from that, anything else is conjecture. I felt that Cherie Blair was also criticised in a similarly mysogenistic fashion by a hostile media. I always felt that the media couldn't cope with the fact that she had a phenomenally successful career in her own right.

I don't really have an opinion of Carrie beyond astonishment that she could saddle herself to a man with so much baggage. Aside from that whatever influence she has is irrelevant as he is the elected person and the buck stops with him. If, big if, he lets her make decisions, the buck still stops with him.

She was sacked though
