London at 32wks pregnant

I will be almost 32 weeks pregnant at end of February.

Thinking of tagging along on Husband's weekend trip to London. Would have to fly (its about an hour).

I haven't really travelled anywhere since before Lockdown #1 (when I was also heavily pregnant!) so just wanting to gauge thoughts / advice on whether its reasonable or not to go at that time.

Am vaccinated and had my booster just before Christmas.

OBVIOUSLY I know pregnant people live in London full time - but is the travel and everything worth the risk to me? Am dying to get away somewhere before #2 comes (even if it is just London in Feb...). Its been a hard two years..

Everyone had their own risk factor. I've travelled abroad twice during the pandemic whilst pregnant; fine both times!

Fleur405 · 11/01/2022 09:58

I don’t see why you shouldn’t go - using the tube etc is usually fine unless at rush hour (don’t know what it’s like during Covid times - I left in September 2020).

But check the airline rules before booking. You will be allowed to fly but you may need a fit to fly letter (shouldn’t be a problem at all doing a short flight at 32 weeks but I actually took quite a few domestic flights and 1 international flight in my last pregnancy and the gate staff often don’t know the rules).

RedRobin100 · 11/01/2022 10:34

Ah thanks good point on the flight letter! @Fleur405

Yeah I’d have no issue going abroad on a nice sun holiday like and won’t be doing any mad partying in London

Also - even if I did catch Covid (and wasn’t too sick), I’d hopefully have enough time after for isolation etc before having to go back into the Hospital for anything significant!

I think you’ll be fine. Although I wouldn’t recommend the theatre. I did it at about 32 weeks and it was very uncomfortable! (Might just be me though)

LittleGwyneth · 11/01/2022 10:52

I'd get the train rather than fly if at all possible, but I don't see any reason why not. Though I'm biased as I'm a few weeks behind you and live here full time. Have you had omicron yet? If not there's probably a risk you'd get it, but then there's also a risk your husband would get it and pass it on to you, or that you could get it at home.

Personally I'd do it, use black cabs rather than the tube wherever possible, avoid anything super super crowded and indoors, walk the sights, and enjoy a break.

BillyAndTheSillies · 11/01/2022 10:54

I'd do it (but I live there). Would avoid rush hour tubes, take the scenic route on buses and the theatre would probably be out of the question for me at that point in pregnancy as the seats are so sodding uncomfortable!

But enjoy!

RedRobin100 · 11/01/2022 21:03

Thanks all

No I’ve never had any Covid and would rather not as well..
Husband has been away a few times and has also thankfully never brought it back
Yeah can’t imagine we’ll be tubing that much, I like to walk as much as I can anyway.
Will give it a go - it’s been so long since I’ve been over!!

@CurtainTroubles

Why are you flying rather than getting the train?

And yes, London whilst pregnant will be absolutely fine. Exactly the same as London while not pregnant but with less alcohol and shellfish.

Not everywhere has convenient or affordable trains to London
seekinglondonlife · 11/01/2022 21:19

We were in London over Christmas and we all got COVID, despite being very strict about wearing masks. It shouldn't have come as a surprise, it was absolutely heaving, very close contact in shops. We still had a great time though.

@CurtainTroubles there are parts of the UK that you need a plane to access the rest of it!

Brings back memories… many moons ago, (about 25 years) me and DH (then fiancé) went for a weekend break in London.. I was 8 months pregnant. Bit risky, but… Anyway, DH is a very impatient person. Hates queues. Refused to wait for the lifts at Covent Garden Tube Station as it was so busy so made me walk up the never-ending spiral staircase!!! All 193 of them! Heavily pregnant, hottest day of summer, rush hour….lots of tears by the time I reached the top!! We were going ring shopping too! Nearly changed my mind!!! Covid aside, you’ll be fine, just don’t do any stairs on the underground!!

I went to London in July last year when I was 30 weeks pregnant, I was in Wembley stadium with 40k people, Covid didn’t even bother me but the bloody 30degree heatwave did 🤣🤣 our hotel room had 2 fans in it, absolute life. saver.
