Oops posted way too early!! I've got a stinking cough, definitely in my chest as my throat isn't sore but I'm coughing up lots of horrible stuff. Fever and chills, and every bone in my body aches. Anybody else got this horrid bug?

Why are you disappointed surely it’s a good thing you don’t have it? If you’re I’ll you’re I’ll. you don’t have to go back into work when your sick if it’s not covid.

AliveAndSleeping · 10/01/2022 11:51

Oh no. That sounds nasty. Hope you can get some rest. Feel better soon!! Brew

Get yourself a nice hot drink or a lemsip, have an Epsom salts bath this evening, put olbas oil on a tissue and inhale it and look after yourself op. It’s ok to have a moan Smile

KeepYaHeadUp · 10/01/2022 12:23

I had a grotty cold a few weeks ago, OP. It ended up on my chest and I couldn't stop hacking up mucus. Then became sinusitis. Plenty of rest, fluids and some hot showers

I am just getting over it, @toomuchmashaandthebear - and you are right - it is a really horrible bug!

I actually had covid last year - bad enough that I had to go to hospital, and be on oxygen for a few days because my O2 saturations had dropped to under 90% - and even when I was in hospital, I didn't feel as ill as I did with this cold.

One thing that I did find helped a bit was Sudafed - my sinuses were so bunged up and uncomfortable, and the Sudafed did help. I used the oral liquid at first (because that was all dh could get) and then the nasal spray. It meant I could breath again, which was such a relief.

I got this cold after Christmas, and I'm only now feeling better. This cold has really knocked me for six - although I do have long covid, so that probably partly explains why it's taken me so long to get over this.

I hope you feel better soon. {{{hugs}}}

MsAnnFrope · 10/01/2022 12:30

Urgh me too! Not Covid but cough, sore throat, aching and exhaustion for 4 days now! In the past I’d shake things off quickly but this is the second tim I’ve felt like this in the last 12 months.
Waaaaaaaaahhhh

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/01/2022 12:33

Ah I know what you mean. The test is negative, you still feel like shit, and you're not even getting COVID out of the way!

Hope you can look after yourself, stay warm at take all the medicine.

UnbelievableAlien · 10/01/2022 12:35

I had this bug for 4 weeks before Christmas! It’s horrible.
I went to the doctor in week 4 as was still coughing up and it was turning green tinged. They gave me antibiotics which I never usually like to take but they said when the coughed up phlegm turns green it is likely gone to a bacterial chest infection - so it’s worth keeping an eye on. Yellow and clear are usually ok / viral from what they said but even that can still take a few weeks to clear.

Elodeastar · 10/01/2022 12:52

There are plenty of things other than Covid that can make folk feel really awful, including the common cold/flu. I used to live in a more built up area and commuted by bus/train a lot of the time. Every winter I used to get at least one of the most awful cold/flu things, it would last several weeks and always left me with a horrific cough, headaches, bunged up, painful muscles and generally feeling fed up! It wasn't life threatening, but it was draining nonetheless. I hope you feel better soon OP, painkillers, fluids, rest, and hopefully you'll be on the mend soon. Flowers

Frenchfurze · 10/01/2022 12:55

I think we need to remember that the other bugs that aren't Covid are still circulating -- my sister has just had a horrible chest infection and been on steroids and antibiotics, and it not being Covid didn't make it any more bearable that she had to miss Christmas.

Natty13 · 10/01/2022 13:23

Moan away! Sorry you are unwell, hope you can spend the day under the duvet and just take care of yourself however you need. Feel better soon x

toomuchmashaandthebear · 10/01/2022 13:53

Thank you everyone for your kind wishes! I'm currently tucked up in bed and just been dozing on and off since dropping the dc off. Sorry to everyone else who is also feeling poorly, let's hope we all feel better soon! I honestly can't remember the last time I felt this rough so I'm hoping it's a bug that is over with quickly

OP posts:
Xmassprout · 10/01/2022 13:55

My children had something similar in December, made them really quite poorly. I hope you feel better soon

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 10/01/2022 14:08

Loads of people seem to be testing positive right at the point they are starting to feel better. Could still be Covid

Fuckitsstillraining · 10/01/2022 14:29

After two weeks of the sane dose today is the first day I feel relatively normal. It's really horrible, sudafed is what helped me the most, it gave me some relief so I could get some sleep. Other than that just stay warm, rest as much as possible and hopefully you will feel better soon.

toomuchmashaandthebear · 10/01/2022 17:02

Just to update, I managed to see a dr today and I've got a bad chest infection so a weeks worth of antibiotics and steroids have just been collected! Hopefully I will start to feel the benefit of them soon. Hope everyone else feels better soon!

OP posts:
TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/01/2022 17:15

Well that explains why you feel so lousy! Hope the antibiotics kick in quickly, the steroids will definitely ease the chest symptoms.
