I completely believed she was innocent when I was younger. A short time in and I believe she did it. She keeps saying they hadn't explored all the facts. There wasn't anything. How did she get away with it?

Such a sad story.
Yes I think she snapped, she was inexperienced & alone in a foreign country and it was all too much. She admitted to throwing him and being rough.
He was a beautiful baby, I remember feeling people seemed to forget about little Matthew with all the media hype in the 90s. It was a weird time. I hope his family have found some peace.

She’s married with her own baby now. She never changed her name and maintains her innocence.

I’m not sure what my view is yet, but we’ve only seen the prosecution so far, not the defence so you’re being swayed in this view…

Sparklingbrook · 09/01/2022 22:21

I remember there was a lot of debate over the word 'popped' meaning different things in the UK/US. As in 'I popped him on the bed' was taken to mean being thrown rather than the actual meaning of placed.

ColdShouldersWarmTummy · 09/01/2022 22:28

@Sparklingbrook going by some FB groups I'm on, "popped" seems to mean "spanked" in some parts of the US.

Thats just with this series though. There was literally a documentary a couple of months back on this. And it's not a new case so people know about it.

Yes, I think there was definitely a problem with that word having different meanings.

I watched the whole trial on sky news it was on everyday from memory in the 90s

It was very sad that the baby died but I did think at the time the parents wanted to put all the blame on Louise I felt she was used as a bit of a scapegoat because she was in my opinion a very young teenager plus to take limelight of them as they were irresponsible leaving Matthew with a 17yr it's was not like they were poor and could not afford proper childcare both had very good high earning jobs !
I just think she panicked and she might of shook him slightly to try and wake him up I really don't think she shook him with force and intent that the prosecution accused her off

BelindaBumcrack · 09/01/2022 22:50

I remember watching the trial. The poor child had injuries that pre-dated LW's role as his nanny. And Shaken Baby Syndrome has since been discounted by the Dr who was supposed to have been its proponent.

I don't think she was guilty at all.

PowerRangersGo · 09/01/2022 22:55

I believe she did shake him out of inexperience and frustration. Terribly sad story.

Sometimeswinning · 09/01/2022 22:56

@marsdon it wasn't a little shake. She even admitted she had been rough with him. I actually can't sympathise with her anymore. I think since having my own children I'm seeing the whole thing differently.

I haven't seen this documentary yet, but I've seen older ones over the years and I believed that she was entirely innocent.

I still do.

Frazzled50yrold · 09/01/2022 22:57

I'm a mother of five, now a grandmother, and I just can't get my head around how those parents ever thought such a young girl was capable of looking after a baby by herself. They could afford better and must have known they'd gone for the cheapest option.

MissM2912 · 09/01/2022 23:03

Agree Frazzled- it is baffling!!

NeverChange · 10/01/2022 02:37

Just finished watching all 3 episodes of it and I agree with the judge's decision.

Not sure what exactly happened but enough reasonable doubt not to find her guilty of murder.
