Laundrette tips?

haribofiend · 08/01/2022 17:28

I live in a rented flat- with no room for a washing machine. The laundrette has cycles that last 30mins only (and cost £3!) and make the clothes smell fusty. I am so fed up.
Probably nothing that can be done about this, but posting in desperation in case anyone has tips that will help me get my clothes cleaner & smell fresher even in rubbish machines?

What do detergent do you use?

SouthOfFrance · 08/01/2022 17:31

Who maintains the machines? Can you let them know so they can run a cleaner through the cycle, or check the door seals for mould?

You've not started using Smol washing capsules have you? If no it could be that.

Whatever capsules are on sale usually. I have tried those fragrance bead things but they don’t seem to work / last long (maybe I don’t put enough in?)

I don't know what your laundrette allows you to use but I add this to my wash in the drawer along with the liquid and fabric conditioner. It stops my towels from getting a damp smell which some of the bigger thicker ones can occasionally do.

www.savers.co.uk/Household/Laundry-&-Ironing/Washing-Powder-&-Detergent/Wizz-Antibacterial-Laundry-Cleanser-1-Litre/p/767344 I get it from Home Bargains but it seems that Savers do it too. Possibly a few other places.

HoldingTheDoor · 08/01/2022 17:34

It's available as the regular version and there's a lavender one too.

Ooh thanks @HoldingTheDoor Smile

You're welcome. Hopefully it'll help a little.

That link doesn't seem to want to work now so I'll leave this one too. Amazon Also have it. www.amazon.co.uk/Wizz-Antibacterial-Laundry-Cleanser-Litre/dp/B01M27EYX0?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

White vinegar in the fabric conditioner section , clothes will be fresh and no residual vinegar smell

BigYellowHat · 08/01/2022 17:41

Is there no way of shifting any furniture around so you can get a washing machine in? It’s going to get very expensive using a laundrette.

nalabae · 08/01/2022 19:23

Another one saying white vinegar maybe also machine needs to be cleaned on a hot cycle
