I finally left my old job last summer after bullying and micromanaging from my old boss and quickly found a new better company more authority responsibility and 20% more money. So I'm really happy but aibu to be pleased that my old boss has moved to a v small company in a much more junior role after being made redundant? He's now more junior than me and was head of xx. I know it's petty but this is the man who told me to look for another career as I was useless.aibu?

YANBU at all

FindingMeno · 08/01/2022 10:41

Yanbu.
I'd be the same.

Nandakanda · 08/01/2022 10:44

YANB remotely U.

I’d send him a “Congratulations on your new job” card just to rub it in. Arsehole.

YANBU. It's funny how things can change. You just never know.

Lochnessgiraffe · 08/01/2022 10:51

So tempted to congrat him on LinkedIn.

YANBU. What goes around comes around. Smile

LondonWolf · 08/01/2022 10:54

No YANBU. It’s one of life’s small pleasures to hear of bad fortune - not terrible obvs - being visited on those who have wronged you.

Ponoka7 · 08/01/2022 10:54

Do it in a clever way because you never know were people will turn up, or friends of theirs.

BlusteryLake · 08/01/2022 10:57

Fine to feel secretly like justice has been served. I probably wouldn't do anything on LinkedIn though, maintaining a dignified silence is usually best.

BobbieT1999 · 08/01/2022 10:57

This is the sort of karma we all hope to witness

GreenClock · 08/01/2022 10:57

I’d be saying “congrats” on LinkedIn to wind him up. Haha - you reap what you sow.

Abhannmor · 08/01/2022 10:57

What comes around goes around. But I wouldn't rub it in. I never tempt providence.

Iheartmysmart · 08/01/2022 11:00

Slightly different situation but I was made redundant at the end of November as the company were doing a management and support role restructure.

The new wonder person who was going to be coming in to take on three merged management roles declined the job at the last minute. Now the person who made us all redundant has 30 direct reports, no senior management support and no admin staff.

I’m laughing all the way to the bank as I’d been there 22 years!

Like your style. Chuck in your new business card, too.

An unpleasant old boss went to prison. I wasn't a bit sorry for him at the time but later I did feel a bit sorry for him.

Lochnessgiraffe · 08/01/2022 11:11

I do feel a bit sorry for him especially as he is now reporting to someone who was reporting to him. Its a small company full of ex-my old company employees so he's probably OK. He was just a bullying arsehole who pretended to be your friend.

He should remember the old saying 'Be good to people on the way up, as you may need them on the way down'.

Personally I would gloat - but in private!

Congratulations OP on your move.

MamaGaia · 08/01/2022 11:23

I was bullied in an old workplace - a Christian church and charity of all places. He didn’t have a career downfall, but many people saw him for who he really is soon after I left…including the HR rep who dismissed my grievance about him. I heard he even made her cry! So knowing that everyone thinks he’s an ass and that my career has done really well since leaving gives me pleasure.

Schadenfreude.
Pleasure at someone else's misery/unhappiness.
