To feel like the Grinch today? (Light hearted)

Well, I'm about to steal Christmas from my toddler. Decorations coming down today and she loves all things Christmas but doesn't understand the annual festive season thing, just thinks we decided to make everything lovely and shiny.

Had to give in and put Baby Bum Christmas songs on yesterday because she kept taking me to the tv and singing the tune of her fave one (non verbal aside from a few words here and there, bilingual household so apparently takes longer but she knows what we are saying to her).

Will try and be a grown up today and no more Santa songs! My eldest is 9 but she loves Christmas like we all do, little one is mad for it - my brother is the same and he's now 36! 😂

Anyone else got this Grinch guilt today?! I actually decided to buy a big plant/mini tree for the lounge and white lights for it to ease the pain if she is particularly disappointed - DH thinks I'm mad and making her a snowflake but it's so sad!

We used to leave all of our stuff up, at least until February.
It was great!
I'd leave it if your DD loves it so much.
Why the need to 'conform'? She will not be like this every Christmas.

Just do what you want to do, so that in years to come, you don't regret taking it away too soon rather than extending the fun! Xmas Grin

Thanks Nigella! I feel a bit less crazy mother-ish now! 🤣

can you get her a pretty Chinese lantern? In my setting we replaced Christmas with chinese New Year (its in a month) and use it as an opportunity to talk about different celebrations. It does now mean we have dragon dancing from you tube on repeat!!!

BendingSpoons · 06/01/2022 09:08

I'm contemplating taking the lights off the tree and putting them on the fireplace. I love cosy evenings lit by fairy lights! I'd probably leave the tree up longer if just me, but DH won't be keen.

girlmom21 · 06/01/2022 09:11

Mine came down on 28th and the toddler still keeps asking why I put Christmas in the ceiling (loft) and if she can have it back Grin

Our tree has been replaced with fairy lights on the window sill and candles filling the mantle piece. We’ve also kept fairy lights on the head boards in bedrooms. It’s still dark and twinkles are still welcome so they’ll stay up until Imbolc (2nd Feb).

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 06/01/2022 09:16

I thought 12th night was 5th & if it wasn't down by then you had to keep it up all year. Make your toddler's year and leave it up 🤣😂🤣😂
Also gonna be really pissed off if I took mine down at 11:30pm last night unnecessarily!

Inastatus · 06/01/2022 09:16

I’m another one who likes to keep the fairy lights up. It makes the house much more cosy and cheerful in the dark days and nights of winter.

@Glenthebattleostrich Ah that's brilliant - totally up for that!! Who doesn't love a dancing dragon?! 😂 After Baby Shark I can deal with anything on repeat, it's like water torture! Thank you for the idea! 😊

@BendingSpoons Yes that's what I thought with the replacement tree and white lights - told eldest on way to school and she thinks we should do a seasonal tree: Spring/Easter.. Summer(toddler's birthday is in July).. Autumn and back to the Christmas tree for December! Love it! DH will be the grinch if I do that, he didn't even approve of the baby Christmas songs yesterday! 🙈

@girlmom21 Awwww!! Bless!! That's so sweet and so sad too, poor things they have no idea why we are ruining the nice new decor! Plus being covid babies they could do with the fun and the novelty after all this time of limited activities and socialising. Christmas in the ceiling! Hehe. I am doing it while she is at my mums to avoid her watching me put them in the ceiling... well garage actually!! Maybe I'll just turn the garage into a grotto.... Aaand maybe not! 🤣

@Drywhitefruitycidergin I thought it was the 6th?! Don't know - anyone?! 12th night is 5th or 6th?! You are probably right, I'm so bad at maths! 😂

No idea - guess it depends where you start from.....if day 1 is 25th night then I'm right if 26th is day 1 you're right. 🤣😂

stupiduser · 06/01/2022 12:35

It's the 6th

Cattitudes · 06/01/2022 19:50

Some people do it for twelfth night (yesterday) others take them down on Epiphany (today). We do it today.

Some leave them up until Candlemas on 2 Feb.

How about a little disco ball? Have your own little dance club.

Mine used to love the bubble nachine too.
