Would you return the bed?

Not sure if this is AIBU or WWYD really...

Just had an 'ex-display' bed delivered from Gumtree and on some ofEnvy the packaging tape I found what looks like a dead cockroach...

It's an upholstered bed (I'll add a pic). Is it safe to use? Or am I inviting an infestation? Really frustrated as I spent an hour building it before finding the bug...

YES= Keep the bed
NO= Return the bed

Just looks like it got stuck in the tape. I wouldn't be sending it back

AnxiousHeffalump · 04/01/2022 20:52

Yeah I wouldn’t feel comfortable using that tbh.

Beddilemmas · 04/01/2022 20:53

But could it indicate that there might be more in the upholstery?

looks like an earwig to me.
I wouldn't worry, just vacuum the bed and mattress every day for a week if you're worried. That would get rid of anything if anything else was in there

I think its more likely that the bug was in the factory or warehouse where they were packing it and got caught like a big spiderweb.

honestly everything will be OK, warehouses and factories aren't sterile and its best just to not think about it.

Christmascardsontheshelf · 04/01/2022 20:54

You would see small holes or pulls if there were more. it'll be fine. its your imagination running away with you because your bed is your safespace and insects are gross but they are really gross in our beds or food cupboards.

GettingStuffed · 04/01/2022 20:58

I don't think that's a cockroach, it has curly antennae when cockroaches are straight. Also cockroaches have spiky legs, it looks more like a common ground beetle to me

sparklins · 04/01/2022 21:04

As PPs have said it doesn't look like anything that would be in the bed/upholstery itself more like it got stuck on the tape at the warehouse it was stored/packaged at.

Beddilemmas · 04/01/2022 21:07

Thank you all! I'm pleased to hear it might not be a cockroach!

I expect the seller would be difficult if I tried to return it, but it does feel a bit less nice than I wanted. I will vacuum and clean it again.

Wondering if the antennae look curly because they're actually long but stuck to the tape
