I have always wanted to some to find out my heritage, also I'm really interested in my family history. I've been doing some research on my maternal grandparents family trees.

What holds me back is that I've never known my father. I know who he is, I could contact him easily and lives nearby so that's not my issue. He's on Facebook.

I know he was a bit of a womaniser. He could have loads of kids. I know he has at least 7 kids, 3 of which he lived with now, me and 2 others in the area but the other is unknown. Could be anywhere.

Also, I'm sure his younger kids who he lived with don't know about me!

Family history really interests me but it'll make me resent my absent father even more. I have a lot of unanswered questions. I went through an obsessive stage with my bio dad looking at his social media and his business pages all the times. But I'm in a better place recently and not really been thinking about it much.

Wwyd? Apologies for not really being an aibu.

You can do the ancestry test only to find out heritage, and not allow you to match with other users (although you can turn that feature on later if you change your mind)

I'm not sure what I'd do, it's difficult to say having not been in that situation sorry

Also they can only link you with people who have joined them as well I am pretty sure. When you send your dna to them it doesn't go off to some National database. I was just linked with a couple of 3-5th cousins!

Is he Boris Johnson?

I wouldn't do it in your circumstances.
The ethnicity part just says where in the world people with similar dna who have tested live, it's not an exact science and only matches back a few generations, not thousands of years.
The worthwhile part is the opportunity to match others and build a family tree. So if this is not something you want to do, you are spending a lot of money for not a lot of info imho.
