To still do pregnancy tests after a vasectomy

Tiredteacher23 · 04/01/2022 17:53

My husband had a vasectomy 4 years ago. I've never cheated. I've just had a period, but felt a bit sick so did a test. I randomly do them a couple of times a year, just to make sure I'm not the 1 in 2000 (or whatever).
My husband says this is very odd and I think he's suspicious.
AlBU to still test, or does it make me look guilty of something?
Does anyone else still test after the snip?
Ta

It's sensible assuming you don't want to proceed with a pregnancy to find out early so you have options

Dh had a vasectomy 18 years ago and I've never done a pg test since.

I did ask him to do a second (3rd really) sperm test a year after he had it as I was really scared it would grow back. It was negative and that's been fine ever since!

SNUG2022 · 04/01/2022 18:50

I've only done them for a missed period.

iolaus · 04/01/2022 18:50

I've never done once since he had a vasectomy

misskatamari · 04/01/2022 18:51

My DH had one a few years ago, and I've done a few since, if i've had a late period or had symptoms like nausea etc. If we were that one in a whatever number it is, I would want to know ASAP

WorriedGiraffe · 04/01/2022 18:52

Doesn’t make you look guilty of anything, but unless your period is late it’s very strange to randomly do pregnancy tests, if I were him I’d be worried you were wishing you were pregnant.

Garman · 04/01/2022 18:52

I think it's sensible, I know several post vasectomy babies.

Theunamedcat · 04/01/2022 18:53

My friends neighbours had two children post vasectomy then was sterilised herself (yes they were his)

PurplePinecone · 04/01/2022 18:58

I've not done any since my husband had his vasectomy. The Dr that did it said that his method was to fold each tube before stitching/clamping. That seems pretty secure to me.

Hi I was in your position last week.My partner has had the snip and I have very low fertility and I don't want anymore kids.My periods are always every three to four weeks but this time it was two weeks late and I felt really sick and nearly tested.I tink my hormones are all over the place making me feel ill.I did say to my partner hopefully not pregnant and he acted similar to your partner even though I'd never cheat. I kinda see both points of view and I wouldn't test every month x

Globaluser · 04/01/2022 19:51

Surely if you were cheating you’d be testing on the sly…?

Fallagain · 04/01/2022 19:55

I ordered some pregnancy test the other day. DH has had the snip, I knew I wasn’t pregnant as I didn’t feel pregnant but unusual for me my period for late. I forgot to mention it my DH until they arrived and he was panicking I was pregnant but no he didn’t think I had cheated.

I think it’s odd to do a test unless there was a reason to suspect you were pregnant.

Horst · 04/01/2022 19:58

It’s kinda sensible. My friends husband reverted after something like 10 years. She was cracking jokes about being bloated and feeling crap but thank god it’s can’t be pregnancy. Ding ding it was.

BendingSpoons · 04/01/2022 20:04

It's odd to me to do a test because you felt a bit sick. Especially just after a period, when it might not show up anyway. If you had missed a period then I would understand more. Saying that, I do get the paranoia feeling and just wanting to check.

Causewithoutarebel · 04/01/2022 20:08

I don’t think it’s strange, I do the same thing. My DH has had a vasectomy but I know they fail sometimes and i’d like to know asap if I was pregnant. It doesn’t do any harm to do a quick test!

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 04/01/2022 20:09

I would still do them, but I’ve learnt a hard lesson about condom failure so I trust nothing and nobody when it comes to contraception! 😬😆

Seemssounfair · 04/01/2022 20:14

Do you do them because you have pregnancy symptoms or just randomly?

Former is more understandable but surely you can recognise they are not pregnancy related by now, the latter is a bonkers waste of money.

Tiredteacher23 · 05/01/2022 21:52

I felt sick a few mornings in a row so did a test, despite having a period.

That's it for me- the fear of getting pregnant!

This was the point I was making. A baby now would he a disaster for us.

Yeah I think I jeed to stop reading these articles about not knowing you're pregnant until its too late!
