To ask how your first day back has been?

If you had some time out over Christmas or maybe you're getting the children back to school, how has the first day back been?

I was able to put work out of my mind yesterday so didn't really get that Sunday blues feeling, but didn't sleep well at all.

Got up and sorted all ok and first day back has actually gone quite quick.

Mine was cold but people were far less irritating than I had expected.

bluemondae · 04/01/2022 15:38

My boss and a bunch of other colleagues quit. So quite interesting!

Estella1841 · 04/01/2022 15:39

It’s been superb to be back at work. In fact, I was disappointed when I needed the loo because it meant I had to leave my desk. Thinking seriously about a chamber pot.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/01/2022 16:04

Ok except ds7 has an inset day so it’s not ideal to be working with him in the background (in the he is having too much screen time). It’s only one day though!

Doesn’t stop me working really now, as long as it’s not a question of homeschooling. Was a different story two years ago with lockdown one!

mumda · 04/01/2022 16:06

I cancelled my morning meeting and then stayed off the phone and email because a friend came round. God I like working from home.

BashfulClam · 04/01/2022 16:07

I’m on Scotland do not back until tomorrow.

emmathedilemma · 04/01/2022 16:08

Also feeling smug about the extra bank holiday in Scotland! Tomorrow is going to be painful though but working from home.

Bootskates · 04/01/2022 16:10

It's gone ok but I'm running out of steam now, feels like it has gone on forever!

Sunsetsupernova · 04/01/2022 16:11

Discussing with a colleague that covid symptoms can take up to 10 days to appear as they had just missed out on a holiday. When I came off the call I thought maybe I should do a lateral flow just to check as I was in contact with multiple people who now have Covid over Christmas and it was positive!

I’m not too bothered to be honest. I don’t feel ill in the slightest and I don’t have anything planned for the next week so can enjoy some time at home after the Christmas madness.

Doggydreaming · 04/01/2022 16:28

So-so. I slept badly because I had back to work nerves and palpitations. The little one had a tantrum about everything this morning and was clearly unenthusiastic about going back to preschool. My eldest has come down with a cracking cold and has been on the sofa all day with her dad who also has it. I've just heard from the school that there is to be no dinner provision this week because the dinner ladies are isolating with COVID. Have to buy a lunch box stat before the eldest recovers.

I half arsed everything as much as possible.

Fruitinator · 04/01/2022 16:33

Made a massive to do-list
Stared at massive to do-list
Drank coffee
Added to do-list after catch up with business partner
Cleaned out office fridge
Stared at even bigger To-do list
Made executive decision to go home

So shite and unproductive

WashingMachineCrisis · 04/01/2022 16:36

Thanks for asking. Mine was hard. No childcare and an autistic 5 year old made for an interesting first day back at work. At least we’re still wfh but it’s really tried my patience today!

Rosebel · 04/01/2022 16:38

I was back last week but my husband was back today and said he's never been so depressed on his first day back after Christmas.
Youngest is back at nursery tomorrow and has been off for nearly 2 weeks and will no doubt take forever to resettle. Oldest two not back until Thursday and Friday (?) both incredibly unenthusiastic.

Jenjenn · 04/01/2022 16:42

Read through a few emails
Started making a to do list
Coffee
Deleted bunch of emails
Looked at booking annual leave for easter
Coffee
Looked at booking leave for summer
Deleted a few more emails
Clocked off

CurryLover55 · 04/01/2022 16:43

I finished on Christmas Eve & am going back tomorrow. Thought I would hate the idea of returning but actually there’s been so much stress with DD13, work will be a welcome distraction! Plus I still have birthday money to spend & I get a fab staff discount!

CornishTiger · 04/01/2022 16:45

I worked yesterday but younger children back today. Looked at husband earlier and said listen it’s so quiet ….. bliss

WhoWants2Know · 04/01/2022 16:46

I was working from home but felt awful- so I mostly streamed webinars and felt sorry for myself.

1positivity · 04/01/2022 16:48

Lovely short week for our Scottish friends amongst us!

Resonating with feeling quite flat about going back and lack of productivity. I thought I'd hit the ground running a bit more with first day back, but there's always tomorrow.

Am not back till tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it. I'm starting in a new team following a promotion and will be managing a new team. Got first day tummy wobbles. Just want to stay at home with dd for ever Xmas Wink

Longdistance · 04/01/2022 16:50

Dd2 is back at school today. Dd1 is online learning tomorrow and then back in person on Thursday and I’m back to work Friday, but the pupils aren’t in til the 11th (private).

sasparilla1 · 04/01/2022 16:51

Longest day ever.... I've truly run out of steam now!

Mainly because I'm the only one in the office this afternoon, it's toasty warm and I don't have anything taxing to get my brain into.

Getting up early was a bit of a killer though!

Luckily dh is home today sorting out his van & garage, so I know that he'll cook dinner and the kids will be sort of sorted.

Bbq1 · 04/01/2022 17:03

Back tomorrow (although I'm not in Scotland). I work in a SEN school and I am very concerned about how many of my colleagues will be absent with self isolating. I love my job but being so short staffed and trying to protect ourselves from covid makes it... challenging, to say the least. It's times like this that I wish we could work from home. Dh had Covid over Xmas but thankfully was and is fine and returns to work tonight. My year 11 ds returns to school on Thursday for mocks. It's a bit of a worrying time.

Essemce · 04/01/2022 17:05

I've worked all through the Christmas period so no change for me

PumpkinPie2016 · 04/01/2022 17:18

Back today -head of department in a large secondary.

I didn't sleep well last night (never do last night of the hols). Lots of new covid mitigation to implement- masks/limits to numbers in offices/online meetings instead of in person.

However, my day has been absolutely mad busy but great and I have come home exhausted but happy.

Taught 4/5 lessons (including one cover in my dept which I had to quickly plan this morning when I got in). Lessons were awesome and I loved seeing the pupils again.
Organised the mock exam papers for this week.
Replied to some parent emails.
Dealt with various colleague queries.
Organised cover for colleagues absent with covid and supported cover staff.
Led the department meeting- very positive so nice end to the day.
Started to tweak the half term's plan and priorities and made a to do list.

All in all, a good day! I will sleep well tonight!

Extremely productive, but I'm one of those irritating people that sees January as a clean slate of potential.
