Has anyone else noticed a pretty sudden shift in music that's suddenly come with a parental guidance warning about explicit lyrics – typically songs without explicit lyrics?
Had a playlist on Amazon music and Paula Cole's “Me” started but it had (Explicit) which made cock my head and pull a face cos I couldn't weigh up what I've missed and been singing the wrong words for 20-odd years. The lyrics that usually come up on the screen had gone as well.
The only possible thing it can be is “Hell” as in “I'm scared as hell”
YouTube video for it also has “Parental guidance – explicit lyrics”
Best thing is immediately after Paula Cole's offending item, “Sgt Baker” by Primus played – no parental guidance and the whole happy sunshine load of lyrics were there scrolling along too.
I'm really curious, baffled and want to know who makes the call to flag up something for parental guidance / explicit lyrics warning and if it's the record label, the individual artist or what. YouTube has got right on my tits in the last year or so blocking the most trivial videos and requiring age verification but I'm sure that's a sneaky tactic to make it easier and lure people into signing up for the full unlimited / no ads option which I'm not having and won't sign up for either which way.
If I were to block any explicit content about 80% of my whole music collection would go in one swoop but it really caught me off to see Paula Cole (Explicit)
Paula's shame, disgraceful track
Lyrics to the Primus track that immediately followed just to give you an idea of how inconsistent and bizarre it is.
"Sgt. Baker is my name!
I'm gonna teach you how to play the game of warfare
Suddenly it appears to me, you got a bit much dignity for your own good, boy
(Yes sir, yes sir)
I will rape your personality
Pummel you with my own philosophy
Strip you of your self-integrity
To make you all a bit like me
I said - Right! Left! Right! Left!
Sgt. Baker here again!
And if you calls me Puddin' Tame I'll stomp you down, boy
Steers and Queers? Steers and Queers!
Where you come from there's just steers and queers
And you ain't got no horns, boy...
(Yes sir, yes sir)"
Does anyone else get where I'm coming from with this or know WTF gives with all this lately?
