Falsely reporting LFT results to get a Covid Pass

I was talking to an acquaintance who regularly attends mass events where you need a covid pass - they will not have the jabs so they get lateral flow tests only they do not use them - they waste them and just use the serial number/QR code to report on the NHS site that they tested negative they then bin the test - I was shocked it never occurred to me that this might happen and with LFTs in such short supply for those who do actually want to take them, this seems disgraceful to me.

Yanbu - this seemed an obvious flaw in the plan from the start!

Whitefire · 03/01/2022 18:12

Well of course it was going to happen, even if he did it properly there are no checks to ensure that it was an actual negative result. He's being no more wasteful of them then if he took it properly.

PilatesPeach · 03/01/2022 18:13

Seems obvious to me now yes.

That's the issue with unsupervised tests. No guarantee they've been done properly, by the person, or even at all. Imperfect system that is relying on honour.

Also a bit pointless as you can be vaccinated and get Covid...

Its performance measures.

vickyc90 · 03/01/2022 18:46

Not surprised it's all a media spin, if your vulnerable mass events aren't safe, otherwise have the vaccine and get on with your life.

XenoBitch · 03/01/2022 18:48

YANBU, although I do think it is nuts that people who are fully vaccinated don't have to test at all.

GiveMeMyKeys · 03/01/2022 18:51

How did you not realise that this has been a flaw from day 1, I'm sure loads of people do it everyday

PilatesPeach · 03/01/2022 18:53

I guess because I am fairly honest - don't know - it just did not occur to me.

It's always been fairly obvious that some people would do this. Optimistically, I hope it isn't too many. It's pretty shitty behaviour!

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 03/01/2022 18:58

I think you can be fined but how you'd be caught out I don't know.

Kshhuxnxk · 03/01/2022 19:06

It didn't occur to me either but if fully vaccinated people don't need to test then (at a push) I can see why some people wouldn't bother. I only know 1 unvaccinated person that's had covid everyone else I know that has had it has been vaccinated.

isadoradancing123 · 03/01/2022 19:10

That is why they are a total waste of time, and why numbers should be ignored

FusionChefGeoff · 03/01/2022 20:22

They are not a waste of time or a performance measure.

The majority of people WILL do the test and will stay away if it shows a positive.

That means that MOST of the people who are most likely to be carrying high viral loads (the unvaccinated) will test and therefore the highly infectious cases would stay away.

There is a small chance that 1 person who is infected still attends due to skipping their test, but that's MUCH better than 20-30.
