To not understand why buying these trainers is so difficult?!

DS2 would like to buy a pair of Nike Air Jordans with his Christmas money.

Admittedly I am a dinosaur who has never heard of them, but having spent an hour googling it seems that I am searching for a needle in a haystack.

I naively logged onto the usual websites where I have bought his trainers before, but quickly realised that it wasn't going to be that simple.

Am I missing something - I take it that it's a deliberate marketing strategy to make buying them so difficult?!

Ah I gather it's one of the limited ones.... Thank god DD didn't pick one of those pairs!!

eleflump · 03/01/2022 21:51

Not sure if they are limited or not - he wants smoke grey mid ones if that means anything!

We got DS2s from Ebay, reasonable price and sent for authentication first. They definitely had the grey mids on there.

PugInTheHouse · 03/01/2022 22:17

We couldn't find ANY mid air Jordans on any site other than ebay with the exception of the odd adult size 11 or 13.

LuaDipa · 03/01/2022 22:26

If he really wants them try Stock X. You will pay more but they are authenticated.

Not the smoke grey elephants? Fedor Sneaks has them, £300 size 7 and 8... Bought from there when he first opened his drop in Mayfair (only a few months ago)

Nike air Jordans are what we had in the 90s aren’t they?

Netaporter · 03/01/2022 22:49

@eleflump I had this problem last year for my DD. Decided I didn’t want to pay a reseller so would get them myself. How wrong and naïve I was 😂 I downloaded the Nike’s SNKRS app, noted all of the dates for release but even with 4 screens set up with 4 email different addresses, credit cards etc tethered to 4 different wifi IP’s my DH and I failed to score zero Jordan’s of any description at precisely the 8am drop time for weeks. You cannot beat the resellers with bots. In the end I went to Mr Sneakers in London and paid him an inflated price instead. The fact is, this is big business- a bit like buying Rolexes etc. the colours all mean something, whether they are Low’s Mids or High tops also mean different levels of cost and desirability. EBay only authenticate over £100 excl postage so beware of anyone selling shoes which should be worth more than a £100 for less than a hundred. My advice would be to try and get some directly from Nike by monitoring the stock levels or go onto ebay. Always pay by CC. Best of luck!

Thanks for all your help everyone - it seems just to make it even more difficult that a lot of the places that sell them don't let you return them either.

DS2 has always been blessed with very wide feet and so being able to try them on is a must.

Never thought I would look back on the days of scrabbling around on the floor of Sports Direct trying to jam his feet into football boots with such fondness, but that now seems like a doddle compared to this!😁

Just checked the SNKRS app there are some being ‘dropped’ on the 5th. No idea of the price.. HTH tho!

eleflump · 03/01/2022 22:54

@Netaporter really? I can't believe all this, it's bonkers! Rolexes I can understand, but trainers?!!!

reselling is actively encouraged by these companies for PR. Also particular to Nike one of the resellers was the child of a Nike exec.

Personally I don't encourage this practice and avoid companies that do.

Netaporter · 03/01/2022 23:35

@eleflump sadly yes this is the situation 😂 if it helps, no teenager has ever not tried to squeeze their feet into a pair of Jordan’s or complained they are too big/small/narrow etc. This is very different from when you are in clarks IME and they are all Goldilocks about every sodding pair of black shoes 😉

Look up diordans- that's an education in itself. I can't remember if they were originally £1400 or £2k. I've seen them for sale for upto £10k.

Madness!!

Netaporter · 03/01/2022 23:45

@nowayoutonlydown Ahh yes the Diordans…an entirely different league of bonkers indeed. Having driven myself mad last Xmas I feel I could become an authority for Sotheby’s on the subject in the future 😂

PersonaNonGarter · 03/01/2022 23:49

If you want to cop for retail (that’s buy at the RRP) you need to get the SNKRS app and be ready.

eleflump · 04/01/2022 06:59

@GrannytoaUnicorn yes those are the ones, thanks for looking. You can't return them on that site if they don't fit though Confused

@PersonaNonGarter thank you - I will tell DS2 to do it - his reflexes are better than mine!

@Nowayoutonlydown @Netaporter Diordans?! They could do Kiaoradans, a retro version for those who remember a certain brand of orange squash?! RayRiordans, for fans of an Eighties Welsh snooker player?! I might pitch my ideas (The Menopause Collection?) with the proviso that every pair is sold for £50,000....Grin
