Sore hip- ouch!

I’ve managed to hurt my hip somehow! I’m a dancer- not professionally, I did competitions throughout my childhood but I’m in my early 20s now so I don’t compete anymore and mainly just practice for fun and fitness. I don’t recall ever injuring this hip before in my competition days, and I wasn’t practicing or doing any intense exercise yesterday, but I woke up this morning with a dull achey pain on the left of my hip when I’m weight bearing. It doesn’t hurt to stand on both feet, but only as I’m transitioning weight to my left leg when walking. It’s not bruised or swollen but I’ve noticed it’s popping when I’m walking. So as I’m walking with my left foot forward it’s fine, then as my right foot comes forward and my left foot is behind that’s when it makes a popping grating feeling and I feel the achey pain. I don’t know if the popping has always been there or if it’s new, I’ve never noticed before but I also wasn’t looking for it either.

I tried to stretch and do some practising tonight but it hurt too much so I left it.

It’s not excruciating but a dull ache that I can’t ignore. My usual first aid for dancing injuries is deep heat and ibuprofen so I’ve been doing that, just posting in case anyone knows of anything else or what it could be!

I have an unstable pelvis and it does this. Something like a 'sacrial joint' tilting. The osteopath puts it back in place for me.

I should also have said, I have tried heat packs and ice and both helped but only when applied but it hurt to walk again as soon as I stopped applying it. I can’t actually feel exactly where the pain is, it’s not really in my hip bone itself it’s below this and sort of at the side of me, the place where ‘saddlebags’ are! It almost feels like the pain is coming from my left bum cheek but it’s not, it’s not directly behind me and its closer to the side of my body, but lower than my hip. That was the worst explanation everConfused I hope it makes sense!

It hurts to press but not unbearably sore and it’s much worse on walking. This is the same area I’m feeling the grating or popping when walking.

It sounds like the IT band but I'm no expert. If you can see a physio for a diagnosis if it doesn't calm down quickly I would. It's very easy to make this stuff worse
