I told my DIL I would extol her virtues on Mumsnet. She didn't believe me !

Shows how far we have gone slagging one other off here doesn't it?

RonniePickering · 02/01/2022 13:23

Aah I loved my MIL.

Go on then, tell us why she is so lovely!
Wolfiefan · 02/01/2022 13:30

I hope she sees this! Yes list how she’s wonderful!!

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/01/2022 13:31

Why would you do that? Just tell her you like her and treat her nicely. Having a pleasant DIL isn’t a virtue, how peculiar.

PrincessNutella · 02/01/2022 13:34

Well, go on then, OP! What are her virtues?

2bazookas · 02/01/2022 14:19

We have a DIL we absolutely adore.

Her background is nothing like our family's, she's chalk and cheese from the son she married but they complement each other. She's not perfect; fiery, feisty and argumentative. But so kind, funny, loyal, generous, supportive and loving. He picked a good'un.

7eleven · 02/01/2022 15:10

I uncomfortably admit that I like my DIL more than I do one of my own daughters.

RitaFires · 02/01/2022 15:11

My mother strives to do her best to be a good MIL because her own was so good to her. She came from a cold, verbally abusive household and when she met my father she was embraced with open arms by his whole family and it meant a lot to her. Unfortunately only one of her children has struck it lucky on the MIL front, but we do all know that good MIL/DIL relationships do exist because we saw a wonderful example when we were growing up.

TimBoothseyes · 02/01/2022 15:54

Can I add that my DD's MiL is a wonderful woman. She taught her son well. He is a lovely man and I am so glad DD chose him.

My grandma died recently, and it was abundantly clear that all of her daughters and sons in law absolutely adored her. She was so fabulous, and loving and caring, even her step sons wife said she was the best mother in law she could ever have wished for.
She's so missed

Pegasussnail · 02/01/2022 22:55

7eleven does your daughter know ?

Kite22 · 02/01/2022 23:01

Outside of MN, I don't think it is that unusual.
I see many lovely relationships between DiLs and MiLs throughout life.

blinder · 02/01/2022 23:21

My mum can’t stop telling me how amazing her DIL is, but the joke’s on her because my DIL is even nicer!

I probably balance you out as I prefer my MIL to my mother!

7eleven does your daughter know ?
No, I’m pretty sure not. I’m very scrupulous about treating all my kids the same.
BigotSpigot · 02/01/2022 23:33

I liked my MIL. She had a very, very difficult life and I am not sure she really understood me, but I am very sad she died before she could see just how well her son has done in life and before she could meet her grandchildren.

autumncrisp · 02/01/2022 23:49

My mother in law has sadly passed away now, she was only young and it was quite sudden and unexpected. But I can hand on heart say I loved her more than my own mother. She was the most amazing woman and I miss her deeply.

Wineat5isfine · 02/01/2022 23:59

This is lovely. I hope you’ve told her in person too!

My mil doesn’t like me. It doesn’t matter what I do, how hard I work, how well I treat her son, our beautiful DC - their only GC.

I’ve given up caring, just wish she would back off really.

Summerfun54321 · 03/01/2022 00:21

MIL is that you?!

Rubyupbeat · 03/01/2022 01:14

I love my Dil (well soon to be) with all my heart, she is kind, caring, intelligent, loving and hardworking . I feel blessed everyday that she came into our family.

ShippingNews · 03/01/2022 01:16
