hi,

preemie DS (12 weeks early) back in hospital for the second time in 2 weeks with some kind of cold. I feel so miserable about it. is this mine and his life now? I have a toddler who catches things so easily. we only left the NICU a month ago.

life feels very bleak truthfully and I feel like we are going to be in hospital for his whole childhood. anyone with premature babies able to share their experience of the first year or two?

struggling to see the end of the light here and starting to feel overwhelmed. talk of him having to be ventilated and us being sent to a hospital an hour and a half away again - literally only 2 weeks later from when this last happened.

My prem DD was born at 27weeks(13 weeks early)weighing 1lb 13 oz (802G)
she was on vent for a week and 12 weeks on CPAP- Came off Cpap 2 days before coming home- which was 2 days before her due date.
We feel v.fortunate that she had no further conplications after birth.

The first 2 yrs was reflux ( lactose intolerant) and a lot of colds- she went back in when she was 4weeks out of hospital as struggled with her first cold.

At age 2, she really just seemed to be ok with no further issues.

DD is now 18 & you would never guess she was a prem!

I hope you DC gets well soon & continues in strength

I just wish I could fast forward this time which is so sad because I should be enjoying his young years - I know from my daughter (2 and full term) that this time goes so quick

I just feel so drained and so gutted for him that this has been his start and what our future could look like, in and out of hospital for years. I dont think I can bare it.

First 6 months with prem DD were hard. But from about age 9m onwards have been easier. She does get ill more than DS but he barely ever gets ill, less so than her friends.

Candyss I do want to reach through the abyss and give you a hug. I was in your shoes 2 years ago, its awful at the time but you will look back next Christmas and barely remember it.

Candyss · 01/01/2022 18:34

thank you, that gives me hope that he will get better and stronger as he gets bigger. It's just so rough being back so much already

Is it bronchiolitis? DD had it twice the first winter and had to go on a ventilator too. It's a rotter :(

Candyss · 01/01/2022 22:06

first time was bronchiolitis, this time round chest is clear but he has so much mucus he is struggling to get rid of :( it really does

I was a prem baby, spent a lot of the first 6 months in hospital but I'm 33 now, fit and healthy! My DM told me the first year of my life was such a struggle but it did get easier.

I hope your baby gets better soon OP Flowers
