AIBU to delay New Year's Resolutions

I had a plan to stop drinking and eat really healthily from 1st Jan 22. Whenever I try this I always seem to have early January plans- meals out, nights catching up with friends etc, as it's a few days before going back to work. This year I had no plans and even prepared a healthy stew for tomorrow (don't feel sorry for me- I wanted to). However, DH has just said he has a takeaway and drinks planned for tomorrow night and I'm very easily swayed, as I would enjoy this! Anyone else starting 2nd, 3rd or 4th January instead?

Nope - starting on the 1st for me. Otherwise before I know it it’s the 1st Feb and I’m no closer to my goals. That’s just me though.

If you set a date, have a plan and can stick to it it’s doable. Technically we can start any day it’s just whatever works for you mentally

Still in holiday mode here. My resolutions start when I go back to school (staff not student) on the 4th.
Last year's was to lose weight, I've beaten that goal and lost over 2st.
This year I want to lose a few more pounds and do Adrienne's yoga - Move

We always have a big family lunch on New Year’s day so my resolutions start on the 2nd

My resolutions are always something I WANT to do achieve. So easy if not eager to begin. If you feel the need to delay or change it- WHY are you doing it? Beyond obligation? This is why gyms are full in January and come feb it just the usuals .

Start your commitments when it's right for you!

I think as NY is on a weekend, it's fine to start on Monday 3td :)

JaneJeffer · 01/01/2022 01:34

Start Monday. Repeat ad infinitum for the rest of the year.

My birthday is early January, I always set my goals for after that as it's just too much temptation

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 01/01/2022 01:43

Birthday early January, so I start my routine then… I wouldn’t call it a resolution as it’s my normal, however from mid January I eat healthier, drink less alcohol and attend the gym 5/6 nights per week.

I stop all the above around mid nov… bower this year I ended up with kidney stones and in hospital so will be concentrating on getting rid of those.

If your resolution is stricter than you've ever bothered to stick to, it doesn't sound like there's much point to it.

If you don't want to miss out on "treat" nights why not just make your resolution to be that your regular meals will be healthy and alcohol free and you won't initiate drinking? Then you can still go out/accept a takeaway/etc. but when that is happening you will at least eat healthier.

Putting a date on anything doesn't work for me. Unless I'm determined and committed then I can choose any date. I want to give up alcohol but I think I may be in my grave before that happens GrinGrin

I think it’s too hard. You’re going from super fun to super boring, every cell in your body will be uncomfortable. How about in January drink enough water, and ease off the fun times gently.

I don't really do resolutions but I will cut back on booze, after the weekend!

Veryverycalmnow · 01/01/2022 08:53

Thanks everyone! I will start on Monday and not feel guilty. Happy new year
