Surprise Birthday Party tomorrow for £40 year old friend. Her husband has been organising it for months! Its being held in the community centre and I have helped today, spending hour to set it all up.
Food is coming from far and wide with the invited guests.
Just had a text the birthday girl is feeling very unwell (not covid) and gone to bed with a barking cough and cold. Help the party starts at 12 noon tomorrow with a very elaborate trick to get her to community centre. What to do???

What bad timing Sad

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/12/2021 19:48

Skype her in. No sense trying to drag her there.

JohnSmithDrive · 31/12/2021 19:49

You have to cancel. It's rubbish but if she's started with a barking cough today, she needs to isolate and get a PCR.

errnerrcallnernnernnern · 31/12/2021 19:49

Not much you can do. It’s up to her husband whether he cancels or not surely? What has he said?

She has had a PCR negative. Its a bad cold.

I don't think there's much that can be done tbh?

It's very bad luck though

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/12/2021 19:51

I wouldn't cancel as I assume it's all paid for anyway.

He is gutted and waiting to see what the morning brings. However some people are driving for hour to come.

Leave it to him to organise then

I would be meeting with lots of people in the middle of a pandemic. Is she the king of person whose ok with that?

If so, I think it’s up to the husband to decide what to do.

Perhaps she will get a good nights kip and be up for it tomorrow. He should tell her what’s happening instead of making it a surprise and she might perk up and come along. If she finds out a bash was planned and cancelled as she was a bit poorly she might be annoyed and be of the opinion that she could have gone for half an hour, had a rest, gone back for another half an hour or whatever and people could have enjoyed it.

Its only family and only 18 so not lots of people all who have done LFTS before they come. Good idea that she could come for half an hour.

Good idea that she could come for half an hour.

And give everyone her bad cold? FGS that's a terrible idea.

The tables are 12 feet apart doors and windows open she will be nowhere near anyone but her husand.

Shouting at people in the cold doesn't sound like what I'd want to do with a virus.

If anyone has the equipment, you can Skype in with a projector for the room (ex-facilitator!).

Its the warmest new years day on record tomorrow so hardly cold.

If she wears her mask she’s surely unlikely to infect anyone with it.

CremeEggThief · 31/12/2021 20:10

What's the latest you would need to alert people before they set off? I would leave the last decision until then.

He is waiting to see how she is in the morning and will make a decision then. Such a shame.

I agree. If she comes for half an hour she needs to stand outside and not go anywhere near anyone. People don't want to be isolating coz of her cold.
