Why are people such nobs?

I don’t think I was being unreasonable and this guy was just a complete twat…

Walking in the pavement, pushing a pram. Road is closed for road works so there are multiple signs stating so and diversion signs all around. One pavement is also closed so only one narrow bit of pavement open for people to pass.

As I’m going through the narrow bit a man on a moped (moped wanker) comes down the road sees that it’s closed, mounts the pavement and rides right up behind me, he’s literally a couple of feet behind me. I stop, and have a go at him for riding his moped on the pavement- Specifically that close to a pedestrian.
MW: You must have a low IQ”
Me: Errr clearly higher than yours because you couldn’t read the road closed signs, and you’re riding your moped on the pavement”
Mw: you’re just looking for an argument
Me: errrr no, I’m just walking on the pavement and you’ve nearly ridden into the back of me. How is that looking for an argument?
Man working on the road works- stares throughout and finally says “mate you shouldn’t be on the pavement”
Moped wanker then asks me if I’m going to move out of the way or just stay there.

I know I wasn’t in the wrong but I can’t get my head round his mentality that a woman pushing a pram wouldn’t be alarmed by a moped riding right up behind her on the sodding pavement. So was I unreasonable to turn around and shout at him? The prick.

It sounds like you've had an unfortunate run in with quite an extreme kind of prick. These things happen. They can shake you up a bit I know. YANBU though, of course mopeds should be be driving on the bleeding pavement.

EezyOozy · 31/12/2021 19:38

TBF I think you're reaction was very calm. Had I been pushing my baby along the pavement only to be tailgated by a motor vehicle ON THE PAVEMENT I'd have totally lost my shit.

GuidingSpirit · 31/12/2021 19:53

YANBU! I was pushing my pram along a narrow pavement before christmas. Saw a house for sale so stopped to look up the details on rightmove - got honked and sworn at by an Amazon delivery driver who was driving ALONG THE SODDING PAVEMENT due to a parked car blocking the narrow road. I appreciate delivery drivers have v unreasonable deadlines but pedestrians should be able to stop on the pavement without getting abuse Confused

The world is full of anus's, some anus's are bigger than others.

He rode his moped up behind you on a pavement AND insulted you? No you WNBU.

And I’d like to bet he wouldn’t have done it to a man.

Brianmaysmagicfingers · 31/12/2021 20:22

He was actually mildly amused that I was so annoyed with him riding up behind me. Like he thought I was just being hysterical about something inconsequential. The prick.

I'm finding the same everywhere I go just now. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and severe osteoarthritis in both hips which means I'm struggling around on crutches and people are so rude - I'm visibly struggling to walk yet they continue to barge into me at speed and I can't get out of the way quick enough. I know I'm slow and I make a point of always walking to the side so I'm not taking up the whole path/supermarket aisle and being annoying but that still isn't good enough apparently. Nobody has any patience.

Last year I was on a walk with DD in the pushchair and a motorbike came along a footpath next to us and then hopped back on to the road

He'd basically done so to miss out a busy junction. Some seem to think they can hop on to a footpath and then back onto the road like cyclists do

I used to take DD on long walks in the pushchair daily and the amount of idiots I encountered was unbelievable. Multiple times I'd find cars and vans fully blocking the pavement. Ppl just don't care. Glad you called him out on it. I did a few times too and nearly always I found I was dealing with a deadhead who either didn't care or didn't see the issue

They aren't supposed to do it either. Not that they care.
