To lie and say I’m ill?

My work has no flexibility at all. If you need an appointment for something and it’s only available in working hours you just get told no.

I have been offered a medical appointment on a week day at a time I’d normally be in work. Considering just lying and saying I’m ill. Wondered what others would do.

Seems draconian to refuse time off for a medical appointment which is unlikely to be available outside working hours. I'd probably take leave if I had plenty in hand. If not then yes, I would lie.

Your options are (a) skip the appointment as your work can’t be flexible or (b) call in sick and take the appointment? I’d call in sick.

That’s right @thefirstmrsrochester - stupid I have to take a full day for something that would take thirty minutes but so I do!

Deffo just say you’re ill.

I can request leave of absence for medical appointments as a teacher. I doubt you’d be refused if you say you have an appointment.

If the appointment is in the afternoon I’d go to work, and then just leave and say GP had a last minute cancellation and as it is urgent you have to go. Then just go. Who cares if they don’t believe you. You shouldn’t have to take a day off for that.

Your employer's are being unreasonable not letting you have time off for a medical appointment. So perfectly acceptable to say you are ill

It seems so stupid I have to take a full day for 30 minute appointment but I know they won’t give me the time or let me leave.

Oo I'm a teacher no medical appointments in work term, this is a massive no no so completely understand. Think I'd call in sick if in your situation!

Call in sick then, you have no other choice. It’s pretty rubbish.

I think it is illegal to refuse time to go to medical problem .

Surely if this is teaching there must be agreed national rules about this kind of stuff?

If you have a hospital appointment you don't tend to pick and choose the time, so I think.iys very unreasonable and possibly illegal for an employer to refuse

Does anyone have an actual law I can provide? I believe you but my HT won’t!
