I have Covid, I'm isolating, I'm rewatching. Honestly, he was Carrie's good friend and he just disappears!

Not to mention fucking Chris Noth now absolutely ruining it completely 🤨

They couldn't be arsed to properly write minor characters. They'd all only ever have like 2 episodes but still be referred to as "very good friend since blah blah" like Bobby Fine and Bitzy, Susan Sharon etc. In the 90s they could get away with half arsed shit because we didn't binge watch stuff like we do now.

Littlecaf · 30/12/2021 22:12

Who was the friend of Carries who made her take her shoes off at her house and then they got nicked by another party guest? I want her back!

gaggiagirl · 30/12/2021 22:15

Tatum O'Neal played her I think. I loved that episode

Heavymetaldetector · 30/12/2021 22:16

Also yes, the Chris Noth accusations now make the entire thing unwatchable anyway, as well as some of the stories about how stand ins were treated on set and the all round toxicity of the whole project.

PERMISSION TO RANT ABOUT AJLT

I was really hoping the AJLT would be better. I thought they might have learnt from past mistakes, and how sick everyone is of Carrie's bullshit, and how tone deaf it is to have a show centered on spectacularly rich white people in this day and post covid economy age. There's no explanation of how they got quite so stinking rich either, they just...did? I get that Big was a millionaire and that I guess. The first scene is of them all yelping and screaming at getting a table while Charlotte casually holds three Oscar de la Renta dresses over her shoulder. Come. ON. Do better, seriously, it's not that hard. And Carrie seems more of a jerk than ever, but she has the ultimate excuse of grieving. So that's why she can't even be arsed to pretend to give AF about Miranda's drinking problem and is constantly snapping at Charlotte. Again.

Thank you for your time.

Heavymetaldetector · 30/12/2021 22:18

Shoe party woman was called Keira something. She is someone I have much more sympathy with now than I did in 2004.

AlphabetStew · 30/12/2021 22:22

Kyra.

And I'm pretty sure she had a DD called Allegra.

Bluebluemoon · 30/12/2021 22:28

I remember totally sympathising with Tatum O'Neill's character as I seem to remember she had a crawling baby and I did too at that time and would've also asked people to take their shoes off 😂. I thought Carrie was a brat for asking her to pay £500 or whatever for new manolos!
If you've read the book, they very much took a lot of the writing style from it of all these random people popping up and saying a few lines etc. I absolutely loved the first few series - before it went off the boil and before the dreaded films!
Now it's about the fabulosity and the fashion - but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It's nice to see some glamour and escapism, especially at the moment. Everything doesn't have to be dreary and "real".

AsYouWishButtercup · 30/12/2021 22:34

Rule no 1 of rewatching the fabulous SATC - start from the start of season 2 and remember Big has just dunked Carrie. Season 1 is AWFUL and a waste of time

x2boys · 30/12/2021 22:34

Skipper was only in a few episodes ,in the first series I think ,Miranda treated him terribly.

HelloDulling · 30/12/2021 22:42

I feel sure Skipper moved to San Francisco, got in early on a tech start-up, and now earns a small fortune, does yoga every morning, lives in a great big house and has a wife who appreciates him.

RonniePickering · 30/12/2021 22:43

Yeah I see the shoe episode completely differently now I have children 🤣

Season 1 is like these little short stories. Only then it becomes 6 seasons...and...
And so it becomes harder to make it all run together and carry things through, like Skipper, I guess. There are a lot of 'good friends' that we then don't see again. Except for Big of course who is forever bloody hanging around. It's such a weird relationship. She says all this stuff like they talk for four hours but it feels like thirty minutes. But do we ever really see that? I just never feel the relationship.

HelloBunny · 30/12/2021 23:49

Carrie is the worst friend ever. Miranda & Charlotte are expected to drop everything, so she can moan about her problems, always man-related... And she absolutely can’t be arsed with their lives at all.
Also, the way she ditched Samantha. Seems might be a good match for her! AJLT is so softly softly. No OMG moments at all, unlike the original. No laughs, either!

HelloBunny · 30/12/2021 23:50

Seems, obvs...

HelloBunny · 30/12/2021 23:50

SEEMA

Littlecaf · 31/12/2021 00:22

Ah yes Kyra! I appreciate her now I have kids!

But that episode also is about life choices too? Not being a parent is still important etc.

I have enjoyed AJLT. It’s good escapism. It doesn’t need to “say something”.

dayswithaY · 31/12/2021 07:54

It always annoyed me that their families weren't mentioned. Once we met Charlotte's brother, Miranda's mum died, I think Carrie had a mum and step father, no idea about Samantha.

Who did they spend the holidays with? I want to see Samantha's mum!

Yes to this.
KillingMeDeftly · 31/12/2021 08:04

"You're breaking up with me while you're still inside me?" is a line I will never forget!

Miranda's mum died & Charlotte was given away by presumably her dad in her wedding to Trey but he was barely visible.

I guess it's different in America because family can be a plane ride away especially if you move somewhere like New York for work but you'd at least call or like you say, visit for holidays

Needhelp101 · 31/12/2021 10:27

The episode where Miranda's mum dies is one of the best, I think. Incredibly moving.

I too would love to see Samantha's mum!

Charlotte & Miranda’s MILs were both string characters that featured.

HelloBunny · 31/12/2021 23:04

Strong

Needhelp101 · 01/01/2022 13:26

There's a wonderful scene when Miranda's bathing her MIL (who has dementia and has just been rescued from having hypothermia having been wandering the NY streets) and Magda says to her, "That is love".

That's why I think the series endures, it's about love, of all kinds.

And it celebrates female friendships in a way that was unusual then (actually not just female friendships).
