Asking everyone to look for missing cat

rmcc1983 · 30/12/2021 20:23

My darling Miles has been missing from Russwood Park, Gilford Road Portadown Northern Ireland since 11:30 pm on Mon 29 Nov. Large (5 kg) ginger/white neutered male, approx 6 1/2 years old. Wearing reflective collar with blue trim and 3 bells. Small piece missing from right ear.

I miss him so much...he's my comfort & I really need him home.

I'm doing everything I can think of...leaflets, posters, alerted Taxi drivers, alerted bus depot, alerted postmen, alerted bin men, alerted Asda delivery drivers, had drone search done, an article in Portadown Times...and of course lots of posting on social media - lost pet pages on FB, buy/sell pages on FB, lots of Twitter shares (including by Stephen Nolan, Portadown FC, some of the Belfast Giants, and others). I've investigated lots of sightings but none have been him.

I feel guilty annoying everyone about it constantly, but I have depression & anxiety, and suffered a close family bereavement in July, and he was my comfort. I was just starting to feel a little better and going to try and build myself up to return to work, and then he disappeared, setting me right back.

Please please look out for him, and if you see my posts please share them.

I can't post photos yet as a new user, but here is a link to the newspaper article

Ahhh I saw the FB post for him yesterday and shared it. I’m sorry to hear he isn’t back yet. I really hope you get him back ASAP!

Crunchymum · 30/12/2021 20:31

I'm sorry to hear this OP.

I'm in London so no help but I'll bump for you. He is a beautiful boy.

I hope he comes home soon Flowers

Gaxillion · 30/12/2021 20:31

Oh my heart aches for you. One of ours went missing just over 2 weeks ago, and is nowhere to be seen. We are devastated.

Really hope yours comes home asap 🤞🏻

ChrimboGateauxCatto · 30/12/2021 23:53

Apparently 2am ish is the best time to go and call for him. Take his favourite rattling treats. Leave his litter tray outside the house if he has one.

One of ours got out and we got him back 11pm with treats.

Bettysnow · 31/12/2021 00:30

Download your local nextdoor app. You can put your cats pic up there and all neighbours on it within a good radius will see it.
Ring all local vets and ask for a notice to be put up and leave your details. Thats how my missing cat was found.
Theres always hope. A friend of mines daughters cat went missing also and was found 6 months later albeit much thinner but well about 3 miles from home. Hopefully your wee cat returns safe and wellFlowers

KloppsTeeth · 31/12/2021 00:52

I’m sorry he’s missing he looks like a wise and gentle soul.

I used to have cats, currently cannot as DS is allergic, but when one of ours went missing someone said to me that cats come into our lives to teach us about love and to soothe our hearts. Sometimes they go, because they are needed elsewhere and even though your heart may yearn for your cat, take comfort in him healing someone else whose heart and mind badly needed it too. Cats know when you’ll be ok.
I hope he returns from his quest soon. Flowers

Frazzled50yrold · 31/12/2021 01:01

You've done a great job at spreading the news. A large male cat came to me a few weeks ago and although I'm about 50 miles from you several people have checked with me that it's not your cat. I pray that he'll be found.

violetbunny · 31/12/2021 01:04

I'm sorry OP, I had a cat go missing for 2 weeks and was beside myself so I can only imagine how you are feeling.

The best possible thing you can do is a thorough physical search of the immediate area yourself. The problem with asking others to look for him is that they're likely to forget and even if they do look, they'll never do it as thoroughly as you will.

It's possible if you cat got spooked by something, he could either be hiding relatively close by or may have run for it then become displaced (the latter is what happened to my cat).

I would recommend reading the advice below which is from an actual study conducted into missing cat behaviour. The most important thing you can do is physically search very thoroughly as if your cat is spooked it may not come when called. Knock on doors and don't just ask them to keep an eye out - ask if you yourself can look inside their shed or garden. I appreciate with Covid this might make things difficult but do what you can.

In my case, following this method was eventually successful and I located my cat in a garden several streets away. I had dropped flyers at the property which goes to show how little attention people pay to such things unfortunately.

Good luck xx

Stay strong OP

BUMP

TimeIhadaNameChange · 31/12/2021 02:12

So very sorry to hear this. I hope he comes home soon.

Strange idea (but assuming you'll try anything) - tell all the cats you see that he's missing and you want him home. It's a Japanese idea and, well, it can't hurt...

XelaM · 31/12/2021 03:02

Bump

This is adorable and made me cry a wee bit.

OP, I'm afraid I'm in Scotland, but I have ginger boys, too, and I hope your chap is home soon. I'll send up a wee prayer to Bast.

Igmum · 31/12/2021 03:31

Another wee prayer from me too. I also second violetbunny's advice. When my DCat went missing I found her next door hiding under the patio way at the back in a massive plant pot. You have a young male who may well have wandered further but it's worth a try. Good luck. He looks like a lovely lad ❤️

2TurtleDovesInARow · 31/12/2021 06:10

I'm about 30 miles east of you but have found and shared your post. I hope you find him safe and well soon.

rmcc1983 · 31/12/2021 15:41

Thanks so much everyone. Still hoping...

Have you gone door to door to ask everyone to check their garages and sheds?

mumda · 31/12/2021 16:08

Check your garden shed and your neighbour's garden shed too. Please.
Leaflet through neighbour's door might be helpful.

rmcc1983 · 31/12/2021 16:44

Have done leaflets, posters, have taxi drivers, police, bus drivers, post men looking out. Doing all I can think of.

No news. 😭💔

Vets. Don't forget to put up notices in your local vets. Many people will take a 'stray' there or to check for a microchip.

OP my DD's boyfriend's 17 year old family cat went missing for nearly 2 weeks a couple of years ago. Never been missing at all before.

They, like you, put up leaflets ect. Worried she had literally died of old age somewhere or been stolen.

Then one day she just turned up at the door! Her coat was greasy and grubby as if she'd been in a garage or something. She was thinner, but certainly not 2 weeks starving thin. Her collar was missing. Never did work out where she'd been.

Although to you it seems an eternity that he's been gone it's still early days OP. I'm sure he'll turn up soon :)

NorthSouthcatlady · 03/01/2022 12:36

So sorry to hear this. Stupid question potentially (l don’t think I have read this in your posts) but have you put his litter tray outside? To help him get the smell?
