Coughing up green gunk is not a covid symptom

But more likely a bacterial infection? It's not listed as a symptom as far as I can see?

Lateral flows negative.

Get a PCR to be sure.

I cough up green funk every time I have the cold. It’s snot.
Omicron apparently causes more runny nose and sneezing than other strains so if you have that, then the green stuff might be from your nose rather than your lungs.
Also you can have a virus and bacterial infection at same time so even if you have covid you might also need antibiotics.

Coughing is listed as a symptom and always has been.

As far as I'm aware, and absolutely possible I'm wrong. The colour is due to antibodies doing their job rather than signalling a bacterial over viral infection.

I'm always relieved when my children's snot goes a vibrant yellow as it means their on the mend, and when I had a sinus infection recently I had a lovely variety of colours coming out of me Envy

I currently have that nasty not covid cold (negative PCR) and again I'm coughing up some beautiful shades of yellow but don't 'feel' it's a chest infection.

I have covid just now and am bringing up loads of green gunk. Terrible cold and runny nose but not much of a cough. I think it is omicron as the symptoms are so different than the Delta variant.

My sister is a nurse and she says green stuff indicates a chest infection. I always get green stuff when I get a cold. Have spent the last two weeks coughing and sneezing but have done several lft’s and they’ve all been negative.

I've just had covid and was, and still am, coughing up a ridiculous amount of green gunk daily. It only started once I tested positive so I can only assume it is a symptom of covid. For me at least.

Haggisfish3 · 29/12/2021 22:08

Main symptoms of bacterial chest infection are a sustained high temp as well as coughing up green gunk. The green hunk can just be part of a viral disease as the various antibodies work to kill the virus.

Paramedic here, if you start of with a dry 'covid' cough but it turns into a wet sounding chesty cough bringing up greenish phelm you may have developed a secondary bacterial chest infection, especially if day 7+ and also feeling like breathing getting worse/fever had settled but begins to return again. If I see this in practice I normally dicuss with a gp and antibiotics commonly prescribed.
