Tonight I had an overwhelming craving for a doner kebab. Its something I've had about 6 times in my entire adult life..
But when I've eaten it its been bloody beautiful..
Aibu to think that although it's dirty, it's bloody delicious?

YABU to call food dirty. It’s just food. Eat it if you want.

SniggleSnarf · 28/12/2021 19:39

It's just snobbery. I love all the salady bits it comes with and I don't much like chicken. I don't see how it's worse than a meat feast pizza tbh.

Xmassprout · 28/12/2021 19:41

Do enjoy a donner meat wrap with salad and a side of cheesy chips!

ElftonWednesday · 28/12/2021 19:41

Also I used to love a chicken kebab. Nothing dirty about that. Chicken, flat bread, chilli sauce, salad, yoghurt. Amazing.

Queenofchips · 28/12/2021 19:41

I called it dirty because of the association with it.. It's hardly fine dining, it tastes bloody gorgeous despite the grease around my face right now 😁

Ooosh a big greasy kebab 🤣

Funnylittlefloozie · 28/12/2021 19:43

There is akebab place near me that does epic kebabs. Nothing 'dirty' about them at all - both lamb and chicken doners are freshly made, the salad is good, the sauces are nice. There are a lot worse things to eat than a chicken doner with loads of fresh salad !!

even though I prefer a massive lamb doner with garlic sauce

MissAmbrosia · 28/12/2021 19:46

Love a kebab! I miss UK ones so much.

pradavilla · 28/12/2021 19:46

I love a chicken kebab but they don't really do them here in Scotland. I have found a couple of places but they weren't like others I've had when I've been on holiday that taste amazing.

Here its always the donner meat ones. It tastes nice enough but right after I always feel like ugh why did I eat that and don't feel so gd 😂

Luckyelephant1 · 28/12/2021 19:50

I don't love doner, but a chicken shish or lamb kofta kebab is one of my favourite takeaways and probably one of the healthiest too. Grilled meat, colourful salad, fresh flatbread. Unless you go overboard on sauces and get cheesy chips on the side its not dirty at all! I never really understood why kebabs get such a bad rep, I know it's the standard food people seem to get when they're blind drunk at 3am but then again so is pizza or McDonald's and I feel they don't have the same 'Brits abroad' type definition.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/12/2021 19:50

Never had one. Had a chip kebab but only at the end of a night and worse for wear. Then it’s the food of the gods.

Luckyelephant1 · 28/12/2021 19:50

Association, not definition

psydrive · 29/12/2021 12:59

Unless you're eating it off the pavement, it's not dirty.

BrioNotBiro · 29/12/2021 13:07

I used to know environmental health officers who did food inspections. They used to say kebabs are fine as they are flamed and hot, but used to warn about reheated rice.

sst1234 · 29/12/2021 13:10

Agree, it’s not dirty. Well made lamb donner is just grilled meat in some kind of flatbread with salad. You could do a lot worse. Like fish and chips or pie and chips type food.

shas19 · 29/12/2021 13:23

Yumm, Mixed donner with loads of garlic and chilli sauce, red cabbage, lettuce and onion. 37 weeks pregnant and craving it now

SauceGotReal · 29/12/2021 13:52

Traditional doner meat should be lamb, ground up. Lamb is traditionally fatty so that's why it's so greasy. A lot of the fat and salt associated with a doner kebab comes from the breads and dressing.

Nowayoutonlydown · 29/12/2021 14:08

I want one now.

MsChatterbox · 29/12/2021 14:29
