To think Jimmy Carr's book is a bit pants?

Every year for Christmas I ask for a book that will make me laugh - Jack Dee's autobiography and the spoof Alan Partridge books were some of the highlights in recent years that were unbelievably funny.

I thought Jimmy Carr's book was going to be superb so asked for it - but it just drones on and on and on like some kind of bizarre self help book. I've given up on it half way through. :(

AIBU to think the book is a bit rubbish?

Apologies - I think I have added a vote, which I didn't mean to do!

It is supposed to be a 'self help' book, to be fair... not a funny book.

I agree it's a bit self indulgent and doesn't give any good advice.

BlusteryLake · 28/12/2021 16:17

Well given that Jimmy Carr himself is a bit pants, I am not surprised that his book is too!

clpsmum · 28/12/2021 16:18

I think it's supposed to be a self help book lol

StoneofDestiny · 28/12/2021 16:18

No idea - but Carr is a bit pants

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 28/12/2021 16:19

Well JC isn’t really that interesting or funny so I can imagine his book would be.

What sort of help is he offering?

rachb2019 · 28/12/2021 16:22

I love all of his stand up and TV work so was expecting the book to have me laughing like mad - but must have misunderstood the purpose of the book

This ^^
DroopyClematis · 28/12/2021 16:39

He's not a funny man so I'd assume his book wouldn't be either.

Sportslady44 · 28/12/2021 17:07

He's awful. Would never buy his book.

You love his rape jokes?
DGRossetti · 28/12/2021 17:14

If you'd seen him on Russell Howard, you'd know it was more a self help book.

"The Naked Jape" is very good if you like comedy analysis.

LolaLolaLolas · 28/12/2021 17:17

I went to school with him. He was awful then and is just the same now.

tttigress · 28/12/2021 17:18

Seems a bit unfair to say he is totally unfunny, like some posters have said but:

  1. on the comedy side it is hard to stay sharp after a while, even if you are really trying
  2. Christmas books are a notorious money grab, so quality may vary considerably from a performers normal output
tttigress · 28/12/2021 17:23

Overall he doesn't come across as the nicest of people, but that is comedy for you

WaltzingToWalsingham · 28/12/2021 17:29

As an aside, has he had work done recently? I caught a glimpse of him on tv recently and barely recognised him!

Clarice99 · 28/12/2021 17:35

Jimmy Carr is crap. He's not funny in the slightest and if his book is supposed to be a 'self help' book, I can't imagine why anyone would turn to him for self help guidance when there are countless suitably qualified, knowledgeable people writing self help books.

BewareTheRedNosedDragon · 28/12/2021 17:40

Jimmy Carr is a twat so obviously his books is shit. I haven't read it but he is a twat so...

Ooh. Tell us more!
LolaLolaLolas · 28/12/2021 18:07

@MsMoody He was incredibly patronising and condescending in class and made you feel so stupid, as if he was better than everyone else. Never went to any of the group parties, again he thought he was better!
