To ask which countries/beach places in Europe don't get ridiculously hot in end July/August?

Trying to plan a summer hols - haven't had one in years - and wondering which places in Europe won't be roasting in the school summer hols (obviously, in normal times, i realise climate change can affect things dramatically).

Any recs welcome.

Thanks

French or Spanish atlantic coast.

We went to the Costa de la Luz some years ago and found it nicer than the Med. It's very much a Spanish holiday area, so it depends what you want from your holiday.

Italian Lakes in northern Italy

Depends what you want. If you like peace and quiet:

West coast of Jutland, Denmark (and if you have kids, close enough to Legoland for a visit).

Italian or Austrian lakes and mountains. If it gets hot, just take the cable car up the mountain to where the temperature is cooler and the views are stunning. Many lakes have beaches or lido areas where you can swim, sunbathe and relax.

German coast is lovely, be it North Sea or Baltic Sea but you can have unsettled weather. We went several times as DH is from Hamburg and we used it as an opportunity for DD to use her German and it often feels like a holiday in England, you pack for all weathers.

Austrian Alps.

Bavarian lakes are amazing. Hot but variable so you don’t get the unrelenting sun but some dramatic storms. It’s campanile which IMO the med isn’t in the summer.
Hebrides if you’re really avoiding the sun- we had a wonderful August holiday with daily open fire Grin

Norway, Sweden or Denmark. Miles of beaches, usually fairly sunny but never very hot.

If you're happy with mountains/lakes try Austria, Switzerland or northern Italy. The Sudtirol is beautiful, as are the Dolomites

Sweden (or any other Scandi country) during Midsummer is magical as the nights are so long and there are greenery, flowers and nature everywhere. It's also never hot, just comfortably balmy.

Echoing the PP, for breathtaking scenery consider going to Austria or northen Italy. Austria has a mountainous lake area around Salzburg that's comfortably cool in summer and extremely popular amongst city dwellers as holiday homes. The alpine scenery also extends to parts of Germany and Italy. Look up Hallstatt, Gosau, Attersee, Fuschlsee, Wörthersee, Königssee, Merano valley, Lago di Braies.

Bornholm in Denmark

Place marking as I was pondering the same today.

PedroPonyismyspiritanimal · 30/12/2021 23:35

Also placemarking. Have been pondering Denmark, Sweden, Finland today. Does anyone have experience of those? I want forest and lakes and pleasantly warm but not hot weather.
Northern Spain (Asturias) might for the bill for you OP, lovely beaches and mountains, lush and green and not too hot.
