To expect to be able to find out how much a new car key is?

When the websites for the car manufacturer, locksmiths etc. all mention 'transparent pricing'? But none have even indicative ballpark prices.

I have lost my car key and am stuck at my parents until I get a new key or my spare one couriered to me. Couriers say over £300 and not till Friday.

Does anyone know how much approx a new car key is. Hyundai if that makes a difference?

@wheresmymojo Sorry - I didn't read properly. I think part of the problem is that that locksmith is in London. I'm in the wilds of Northumberland and everything is shut for Bank Holidays.

To the people suggesting DPD, parcelforce etc., we did even think of Royal Mail first class but it is my only other key and I just daren't risk losing it as well. It is the fact it needs a secure courier transfer that makes it so expensive.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The car is standing unlocked on the drive and has been for 5 days. We went away and I assumed I had left the key here, but apparently not.

Do you have keycare on your home insurance?
Because that can convert car keys as well as house keys

I pay an extra £36 a year for key cover. New key sorted very quickly.

I'd be really anxious to only have one key to my car. If I lost it it'd be a nightmare getting a new one and if not possible, would cost a fortune to have new locks put in.

My amazing neighbours have delivered my spare key, so problem solved for tomorrow.
I will take all your suggestions on board to get a replacement.
