I’m over it now. Can I take all my decs down or is that Scrooge territory?

Fucking twinkly lights.

I'm doing mine tomorrow. I started yesterday then DP changed his mind. Tomorrow's a dead cert!

KatherineofGaunt · 27/12/2021 23:34

I usually leave them until Twelfth Night, but I'm tempted to take mine down tomorrow. I'm just fed up of cleaning around all the Christmas stuff.

Namechangedforspooky · 27/12/2021 23:38

I started quietly removing decorations very late on Christmas Day when I got in from work. Can’t stand the clutter once the presents are open, there’s stuff everywhere
Only the trees and outside lights left now. No one seems to have noticed!

nocoolnamesleft · 27/12/2021 23:39

I keep them until Twelfth Night. But then, I probably put them up later than many.

Merryoldgoat · 27/12/2021 23:42

@nocoolnamesleft

I only put mine up on the 23rd… 🤣🤣

OP posts:
nocoolnamesleft · 27/12/2021 23:45

Ah, in that case, yes, scrooge territory! Wink

LittleRoundRobin · 27/12/2021 23:59

I never understand these threads. Every year around this time, (sometimes even Boxing Day,) someone posts a thread saying 'AIBU to take all the Christmas stuff down? I have had enough, it's boring, sod the lights, fuck the tinsel, bollocks to the Christmas tree, blah blah blah.........'

If you want to take it down 24-48 hours after Christmas day, you don't need anyone's permission. Just do it.

There does seem to this competitive 'I am pissed off with Christmas now' thing on mumsnet, EVERY YEAR, with posters trying to out-do each other with how grumpy and curmudgeonly they feel about Christmas now, and how desperate they are to take the decorations, Christmas tree, and twinkly lights down ... Sometimes on Boxing Day! Confused

It's a bit attention-seeking. Just take it all down. No-one cares!

Mummy1608 · 28/12/2021 00:12

This is why I never decorate in the first place

That's a long response for someone who's claiming nobody cares...
cremeeggsonboxingday · 28/12/2021 00:25

I took mine down today and it feels so good. I love Christmas and I love decorations but after boxing day it just feels like Christmas is over and it's time for a big tidy up.

Merryoldgoat · 28/12/2021 00:38

@LittleRoundRobin

When I don’t care about something I ignore it.

Just saying.

But thanks for taking the time.

SidekickSally · 28/12/2021 00:41

Agree with this. If you want to take your decs down, why seek mumsnet permission. What are you worried about?

Merryoldgoat · 28/12/2021 00:48

I’m not worried - it just feels a bit early, I don’t want to seem like a fun-buster and wonders what people would think as I sit here with a glass of wine.

Does every thread have to ponder the big deep questions?

OP posts:
MissMaple82 · 28/12/2021 00:53

People that take their decs down prematurely really pee me off. I bet your one if those that put them up in November too!

Merryoldgoat · 28/12/2021 01:03

@MissMaple82

If you see above I put them up on the 23rd.

Shinychestnuts · 28/12/2021 01:07

Each to their own. Do what suits you op!

We're still very much enjoying our tree which only went up on Christmas eve. That was late for us though as it usually goes up on 19th.

Oh the irony Xmas Grin

Superunknown1 · 28/12/2021 01:23

Bit Scroogey honestly.

needmoreshinys · 28/12/2021 01:36

I put mine up on the 1st as they come with the elf and take them down as soon as possible.

Last year I think it was Boxing day because we had DSS for Christmas day and then DS was off on a family day of fun, that neither of us could go to. This year I took them today, as we had DSS on boxing day and I thought it was a step too far taking them down while he was here.

housemdwaswrong · 28/12/2021 01:36

I never put them up this year. I love Christmas, and we had a lovely time, but decorations never happened neither did the tree. I don't think it made a blind bit of difference to be honest, so each to their own.

Hydrate · 28/12/2021 01:36

Not yet, but we didn't do a lot, at my request this year. Will put the Christmas tree away on Jan. 1st, and the rest will be put away
over the following few days.

alsonotmyname · 28/12/2021 10:47

The festive season isn't over for me yet so I'm happy to keep my tree up and sit around eating chocolate while I can. Seems pointless to put it up at all if you can't wait to get it down again

BooksAndGin · 28/12/2021 10:51

Mine was down Boxing Day. Grin

Mines done! Thank goodness.
