Evening

I have a shark Hoover within warranty.
On the 23rd the hose on it broke but didn’t call because Christmas etc. My floor is covered in shite from the kids, glitter, decorations, crumbs etc etc. Called this morning to be told the part I need is out of stock and I’ll have to wait 14 days to see if it comes back in stock. I remember one time a different part on it broke and they didn’t have it so sent me a whole new Hoover which I was very grateful for.
I just think that surely if they can’t fix it or send a new part out within a couple of days they should look at replacing like they did for me before? Would you complain? I feel like I will actually have a breakdown if I can’t Hoover in 2 weeks. I would sweep but I have a spinal injury so can’t really get down on my hands and knees/crouch to do it and I’ve got covid atm so feeling poxy anyway.

Thanks

Maybe it’s because of covid and they are having trouble delivering the part? A lot of parts can’t be delivered at the moment. I don’t think this warrants a complaint, frankly.

CharlotteRose90 · 27/12/2021 17:08

Sorry but I’d wait. It’s 14 days not months. No need to complain. They are probably suffering with covid problems the same as everything else at the minute. If you can’t sweep get someone else to do it.

MrzClaus · 27/12/2021 17:10

14 days is fairly standard - I had the same turn around time for a part. It did end up turning up fairly quickly!

Tbh it'd take about the same for a new one, the part they sent me didn't work so I had to return, I think it was 2 weeks from returning to receiving new one.

Do you have a DP / DC that can help? Can you borrow a hoover from a friendly neighbour or family member?

girlmom21 · 27/12/2021 17:19

I'd be pissed off but what do the terms on the policy say with regards to repairs/replacement?

Mrstamborineman · 27/12/2021 17:22

How old? Within warranty? They exchange don’t they? I’ve exchanged twice. They are useless.

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 27/12/2021 17:24

There's extenuating circumstances here, it's Christmas, bank holiday, covid, where are they getting the part from? Is it 14 days, or 14 working days?

If after a couple of weeks they can't get the part, ask them for a solution, be polite, you catch more flies with honey.

humdingle · 27/12/2021 17:26

I think it's really wasteful to send another appliance to landfill when just the part could be replaced - and that's essentially what you're doing if you demand a replacement.

However I also couldn't do without vacuuming for 2 weeks.

Is it an essential part to be able to do any vacuuming? Ours would still work as an upright without the hose.

I've found our Shark brilliant, it's a shame yours has broken twice already!

44PumpLane · 27/12/2021 17:27

Ask on your Facebook if any of your friends has a spare they would loan you..... We have a Dyson, a handheld Dyson and 2 Henry hoovers (one is about 40 years old the other was given to us for some reason)..... Would happily loan and drop off to someone I know via Facebook in this situation. Would be fine with you having covid too as could quarantine it upon return.

icedcoffees · 27/12/2021 17:37

I think 14 days is pretty standard. You can't expect them to just magic parts up from nowhere, especially over the Christmas break with lots of Bank Holidays and long weekends.

Also, why would you demand a new one when your current one can be fixed for free?

Just ask on Facebook to see if anyone has a vacuum cleaner you can borrow for now. I'm sure someone will be willing to help you out for two weeks.

WindyState · 27/12/2021 17:40

YABU, and to be honest it sounds like you are trying it on. A whole new hoover because an accessory is broken? GTF.

Floralnomad · 27/12/2021 17:43

I agree with a pp to ask if anyone has a spare they could lend you , we have 4 vacuum cleaners indoors and at least another 5/6 in the garage -my husband won’t get rid of anything that still has life in it , it just relocates to the garage .

RedBonnet · 27/12/2021 17:44

They said 14 days just to see if it comes back in stock, what if it doesn't come back in stock?
I wouldn't be happy with a 'maybe' in 14 days.
How long would it take to be delivered once it's in stock? Another 14 days etc?
Seems vague and poor to me, although if it was definitely going to be in my hands after 14 days I could wait. I don't have carpets though so I'd make do with a broom and dustpan

LynxGiftsetAndSocks · 27/12/2021 17:46

This is the problem with this ' I want it now' culture!!

Wasteful

Complain all you like but they are within consumer law....repair,replace,tefund....as the retailer sees fit, not the customers choice

I'm Shock at people needing to Hoover within 2 weeks

I get Dh to hoover every 3 months...

TwinkleToppy · 27/12/2021 17:49

Ring back and pretend it's the first time you've called about it. I had two very different customer service experiences and the second time I called it was resolved easily and pleasently.

People do need to hoover more often than two weeks, like me, every day. I have two dogs who shed hair.

Ha, I've got a toddler, baby, dog and DP who regularly plays football. I wish I only needed to hoover every 3 months!
RhubarbCustardy · 27/12/2021 17:59

Yes I'd also call again like another poster suggested. If no success wait the 14 days and then if not in stock ask for a replacement and then its speak to the manager time.

I have 4 kids, I hoover multiple times a day😕

Though in this situation I would make do with just sweeping with a brush and dustpan, I wouldn’t ask a stranger to borrow their hoover incase you break it again it breaks again. Then you will owe them a new one!
