Is it still safe to cook it today?

Posting here hopefully for traffic. We have guests arriving today. Planned a toast.
We have a large vacuum packed turkey breast that was picked up on Thursday afternoon and a beef joint (not vacuum packed) that was collected at the same time.
Are they safe to cook today?

As long as they have been refrigerated I should think so. Do they have a use by date?

dudsville · 27/12/2021 09:42

It's not the purchase date but the use by date that matters, that plus the condition of the contents.

Thanks for the reply. No use by date on them, I think they look and smell fine, but I'm convincing myself I'm wrong! I bought sausages from the butcher at the same time and they are 100% fine. No worries at all about using them..

In the absence of use by dates i would normally say you'll be able to tell by look and smell.

That said, the turkey we had (use by 26th) smelled really funny when i opened it on xmas morning, but i cooked it thoroughly and it has been absolutely fine for both christmas dinner and boxing day leftovers.
