Things to do in Buxton this next week

Posting for traffic. We are supposed to go down south tomorrow but the trains are disrupted and I'm CEV and don't fancy several hours on trains and buses. I'm thinking of keeping things more local-ish so within an hour or so of where we live. Google hasn't been helpful and I'm hoping local mums writers might be able to tell me if there's anything special happening. We love the park and could venture up to Solomon's temple. Where is cheap and cheerful to eat? We used to M&S picnic in the park but now it's closed and it's not the weather to do a Waitrose picnic. The pub next to the Opera House?

If not Buxton then anywhere else with lots of open spaces within an hour of Manchester accessible by public transport. Thank you!

There is a Panto on at the Opera House, Aladdin with James Holmes (Clive from Miranda) as Widow Twankey. Two of my DDs were lucky enough to be invited to watch the dress rehearsal, and older DD says it's the best Panto she's ever seen.

The Pump Room (near the refurbished Crescent Hotel) is now an interesting visitor centre, and the Cavendish arcade (next to the hotel) has some lovely shops.

Out of Buxton, drive down Long Hill and park somewhere for a beautiful walk near the reservoir.

For food I'd recommend Simply Thai (central Buxton).

That would be one heck of a walk up long hill to Goyt Valley to go round the reservoir. I'm hoping to get back to driving lessons this next year. We are getting to Buxton by train and will be on foot but could get a bus onward from there to places.
