To tell you this might be my best Christmas yet?

I know, I know, what a knob, the world is all shit, COVID etc. I quit nursing earlier this year, so this is my first Christmas where I am not working/on call/expecting a call to cover. Didnt have a great childhood. I havent got a hoard of people coming over to cook for as I have in the past, its just going to be me, DH and DCs. Its the first Christmas I remember not feeling stressed, worried or pulled in a thousand directions. DCs are a bit older, so we can sleep to a reasonable hour rather than the 4am trudge downstairs, I can make dinner at leisure and we can play a few games in the evening.

I think this low key Christmas suits me. DCs are happy, DH wont be grumpy (he is so not a morning person!) and I won't feel like twotting someone over the head with the Turkey baster because I am expected to wait on them hand and foot.

Thought it might be nice to have a positive thread 😊 Hope everyone is looking forward to their plans tomorrow, whatever they are!

Happy Christmas everyone!

That sounds wonderful, especially knowing you’re not going to get called into work.
I think it’s precisely because the world is so shit at the moment that we should take our joy where we can find it!
Enjoy yourself and happy Christmas Xmas Smile

You too @Mincemeatbadger, hope its a lovely day!

(Also, additional smug comment, I didn't have to buy a Christmas pud-which everyone in our house hates-to appease guests! 😊)

That sounds blissful. Enjoy your lovely Christmas 🤶

I’m happy for you! Sounds perfect and exactly how Christmas should be. Have a lovely day

It's important to keep things in perspective. Someone else's worst day on Earth might be my best, and vice versa. I try to be mindful of the person I'm speaking to and what challenges they're facing, but tbh, you never know exactly what's going on behind the scenes in other people's minds and lives.

We shouldn't feel guilty or bad if we're having a good time in our own lives. Just take your joy where and when you find it!

I'll be seeing family tomorrow, and that will be good, but to be completely honest, what I'm looking forward to even more is what comes after. A few days of "just us" at home. No noise, no obligations, no stress. Just doing whatever I want, for however long I want.

Have a lovely day.

Our has changed as DH broke bones in his foot 3 days ago. So it's just us at home with 3 DC and we are going to have a lovely time- not a traditional Christmas dinner tho'.

My fantastic PIL had asked us to them on Boxing Day and it looked like that was going to be off but FIL is going to haul DH into the back seat of their car and take him (they only live about 10 mins walk away) then come back for me and the DC or we'll walk if the weather is ok. So that's on. 😁

Thank you, I hope you all have a lovely day as well, sorry to hear about DH Lulu but glad youve managed to work around it!

dudsville · 24/12/2021 21:14

I hope you have a really wonderful Christmas op! You've made choices to make your life happier - I admire that!

Hunderland · 24/12/2021 21:18

I have bought and wrapped all the kids' presents and they are all done.

DH is looking forward to making The Christmas Dinner (TM) - not just a roast as I keep calling it Xmas Wink - and is lovingly planning the day and menus.

We both enjoy doing our bit and it works well together. Am looking forward to ours too, mostly when teen DCs open their large Lego sets and spend hours building them Xmas Grin

Kezzywezzy · 24/12/2021 21:32

Think this has been a time where we have all learned to work out what is really genuinely important or matters to us?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 24/12/2021 22:17

Well done you! Must be such a relief not to be working or on call.
This is the best prepared I've ever been so I'm looking forward to having a stress free Christmas day with my DH, DD and her family and my elderly DM. Happy Christmas everyone!

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/12/2021 23:18

It sounds like you’ve successfully reassessed your priorities. Congratulations on that and have a great day.

Whiskersonkittens21 · 24/12/2021 23:26

This is the first Christmas me and DH are spending just us rather than trudging up to other family members or parents houses. I'm with you, I think it might be the best yet to just relax all day and not have to rush here and there.

Lex345 · 25/12/2021 00:13

Hope you all have lovely Christmases! And yes, if nothing else-I have definitely reassessed life amd what is important. I surprised myself with it, I have always been very committed to my career but I am 100% happier.
