Bleeding at 6 weeks pregnant

This is my first pregnancy, so everything is new and I don't know much about anything at the moment.
I'm 6 weeks +5 now, but at 6 weeks exactly I experienced bleeding. It lasted about 3 hours and came on quite quickly and stopped rather quickly too, and was bright red. I went to a&e and they said it was a threatened miscarriage.
I've had a private ultrasound since, and they said everything looks fine and there is no sign of any bleeding, which was a relief.
Has anyone experienced the same and went on to have a full pregnancy? That experience has really threw me and I'm now terrified it's going to happen again.
TIA

I'm about 15 weeks now, but had the same thing at 6 weeks. I've since had 2 ultrasounds and the baby is growing right on track. Last ultrasound they were dancing around my womb having a great time!

Bleeding is so much more common than we ever know before pregnancy. My OB said as long as I'm not losing blood at the same level as a period it's likely nothing to worry about.

I had a sudden large bleed at around 8 weeks, which stopped after a couple of hours and then another much lighter spotting about a week later. I had a scan and blood test and all looked ok but I was told only time will tell what will happen.

I think implantation bleeding is fairly common in early pregnancy, however it is also an indication of miscarriage so only time will tell. I hope all goes well for you.

I had a bleed at 6 weeks that sounds exactly like yours.
Came & went quickly, was bright red.
Went for a scan the next day. I can’t remember the proper name, but basically they said it was a little cyst that had burst.
Baby is now 18 months.

It was a scary time, hope everything goes well x

SleighbellsZ · 23/12/2021 09:42

Yes, also at 6 weeks. Burst cyst.
Pleased everything showed well at the scan.

I bled heavily at 41 weeks . The baby was fine but it was very strange having to wear period pads whilst pregnant. I bled heavily for 3 days when it stopped, they induced me . I could still feel the baby moving etc . It was very strange even the doctors didn't understand why .

KatherineofGaunt · 23/12/2021 09:48

I had a heavy bleed like a period at 7 weeks and miscarried. My next pregnancy I had some spotting (nowhere near as heavy) at around 6 weeks and went on to have my now 3-year-old.

If they've scanned and said all is well, then try to relax. At my first pregnancy scan they basically said if I kept bleeding I'd most likely miscarry. So if they haven't said anything like that then it's probably "just" something like a sub-chorionic haematoma.

You should be able to be seen by the local hospital, though, if you're still bleeding, and they can check. Sending hugs. It's a horrible, nervy time ime.

Big bleed at 7 weeks, my twins are 3 now, they reckon it was a fibroid coming out? Hardest part is to stop worrying, hang in there

Coasterfan · 23/12/2021 10:41

I had bleeding/threatened miscarriage at 7 weeks. She’s 14 now. I hope all goes well with your pregnancy.

GlamourBear · 23/12/2021 10:42

I had bleeding at around that point with both pregnancies. I had scans just after and all was fine. I had some more unexplained bleeding later on at about 35 weeks with my first but they are now 6 and 3.

It is hard not to worry though, especially with your first.

User7312019 · 23/12/2021 11:16

I didn’t bleed but had an early scan at 5 weeks and the technician mentioned I had a lot of bruising around the implantation site and not to worry too much if I do bleed in the next week or so as it’s a common response to the bruising.

I had bleeding early on with my second child. He's now 43. Fingers crossed for you.

Pregnancy is so stressful. In all honesty it can go either way.

With my 1st and 2nd pregnancies, bleeding led to miscarriage. But it didn't start and stop, it started and for worse.

In my 3rd pregnancy I had spotting at 8 and 12 weeks. No further bleeding and daughter was born very healthy at 41 wks.

All the best OP 💐

Housewife2010 · 24/12/2021 22:42

I bled at 12 weeks. I rushed off to the hospital for an ultrasound. This happened twice more over the next couple of months. Each time I thought the worst and rushed to the hospital. On the third occasion it was discovered that I had a polyp. The doctor removed it straightaway and I had no further problems. My daughter is now 14. Best wishes. Xx

Nectarines · 24/12/2021 22:47

I’ve had four pregnancies. Two ended in miscarriage and two were healthy and became my now 8 and 6 year olds.

All four pregnancies involved the same early bleeding.

So for me it was a 50/50 success rate with bleeding.

Lalliella · 24/12/2021 22:47

I had bleeding for a few weeks when pregnant with DS and on a one-off occasion with DD. Both went on to be born healthy.

livinthedream1995 · 24/12/2021 22:49

Yep with my second and third. Second I spotted bright red blood on and off until I was 17 weeks. Third I had a brown bleed then spotted bright red on and off until 15 weeks. Second currently asleep in bed, third is coming on Monday. Fingers crossed for a happy outcome for you x

Phoenix76 · 24/12/2021 23:35

I bled with my first (now 8), I didn’t know I was pregnant until I was about 12 weeks 😳 so thought it was my period.

With my second (now 5), I was hyper vigilant and bleed several times right up until maybe 18 weeks. I had to have several scans during these times (the stress was off the scale), first said something like sensitive cervix causing bleeding then something to do with my placenta settling.

I hope all goes well for you too x

Lonecatwithkitten · 24/12/2021 23:40

Had a bleed at 6 weeks and 34 weeks in BC same pregnancy she is shortly about the turn 18.

GreyTS · 24/12/2021 23:52

I've been pregnant 7 times, have 2 children, have had bleeds at around 6/7 weeks with both successful pregnancies, the others were either MMC or late (19 weeks 😔) but no early bleeding. Wishing you and your baby the very best, the fact you've had a positive ultrasound is a great sign

accidentlygothereagain · 25/12/2021 00:04

I had pain and a bleed at 7 weeks. Another bleed at 28. Baby boy was born at 38 and he's happy and healthy.

Congrats on your pregnancy xx
