Neighbours bins next to living room window

We have newish neighbours moved in earlier this year, their driveway runs down the side of our house and at the back of their house. They have a back door but no ground floor windows on the back of the house. We have one small window on the ground floor from our living room, we have a large bay window at the front of the living room. Our neighbours have recently moved their bins to the other side of their driveway so they are right next to our living room window.
I’m not sure if I’m being unreasonable but this is really starting to annoy me. Our sofas our right next to this window so can hear every time they put something in the bin. I guess it’s only a small thing but just think they should have them next to their house and it is quite rude to move them next to our window.
Also we are not opening the window at the moment but sometimes do in the summer which we are obviously not going to want to do with their bins right there?
Would I be unreasonable to ask them to move them or am I being unreasonable to get upset by this?

By God, for the first time in my life, I think I can mentally picture the layout of a OP's home/garden/drive straight off the bat. No diagram needed.

Eureka! 💡

Just ask them to shift their bins.

Ask them now, don't wait for maggot season

Ask them before it escalates/becomes habit. Depending on what type of neighbours you have this might be really annoying. Our last neighbours used to visit their 4 wheelie bins up to 20 times a day! Individual pieces of rubbish & recycling.

Seriously how often are your bins collected?

We have wheelie bins that are collected every week so maggots have never been an issue.

Wotsitsits · 21/12/2021 18:34

Passive aggressively move them back to the other side at night when no one's looking.

DogsandCatsB4u · 21/12/2021 18:36

In summer it will stink just talk to them about it

SeasonFinale · 21/12/2021 18:42

I assume they have them on their own land and have moved them so they are out of sight for them. I would ask them politely of they would mind moving them.

I have a big front bay window, and my next door neighbours used to put their bins against my wall on their path furthest away from their house but close to
my window, when window was open it stunk, maggots in the summer, flies..yuk. I put a piece of trellis against the wall so I
couldn't see bins and hung over the top but still my side a fly killer thats a bottle that you add water too.. its a lethal odour. I can't smell it cos is covered over by the trellis (plastic ivy covered) and on my property. They've moved their stinking bins to the front of their house...I've heard the moaning about it lol

"we have a large bay window at the front of the living room. Our neighbours have recently moved their bins to the other side of their driveway so they are right next to our living room window."

Whether its the front or not, its in front of their living room.

Not where someone wants to see their neighbours bins.

DaisyNGO · 21/12/2021 21:45

I'd ask them as long as they aren't crazy.

This happened to a friend in a block of flats. Someone decided the bins for the flats were in the wrong place and he came home from work to find them lined up at his window (communal front drive). When he told the culprit, she said sorry and it hadn't occurred to her he might find it annoying.

I didn't believe anyone could be that thick but he thinks she was genuine.

Squeezita · 21/12/2021 23:09

Yes, mention it now, perhaps whilst giving them a christmas card.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/12/2021 23:18

Absolutely - it will be awful in summer

It just won’t have occurred to them - take some mince pies with you

I am having the same trouble with neighbours bins outside my living room window the lady is so called disabled? I asked which I thought was a reasonable question would it be okay if you didn’t put your bins outside my window as I suffer with mental health an did not want my window being blocked by 4 black bins which the Coucil have decided we need now? There driveway is outside my living room window but they do not drive get taxi’s everywhere an I’ve never seen the whole time I’ve live here which is 2 years now anyone’s car parked on there driveway I’ve looked into this an it’s saying bins have to be 10meters away I’ve had the living room window open an there are smells coming from the black one that’s for food waste which you can imagine in this heat! I need to get in touch but not sure who council or our housing association?
