To make friends lateral flow before party?

user47000000000 · 20/12/2021 21:09

Having a party on Thursday with 4 other couples.

Mentioned Lateral flows on day of party.

3 couples responded “absolutely, minimise risk”

Other couple say because they’ve had covid 8 weeks ago their tests may be positive from then so won’t take one.

AIBU to insist anyone who comes into our home before Xmas takes one?

(I know they aren’t 100% but it’s something to minimise risk isn’t it?)

It's your home you are entitled to ask

BUT if you are that concerned about Covid then why are you having a party when figures are so high?

Also they could agree but not do it or if it is positive then what will you do?

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 21:12

Bit harsh on the ones that have had covid recently - they're right you're not allowed to test within 90 days unless you have new symptoms.

QuestionNumberOne · 20/12/2021 21:14

Of course it’s not unreasonable. If they can’t do a simple LFT then they can’t come.

A family member of mine had covid five weeks ago and now tests negative.

delilahbucket · 20/12/2021 21:14

If you are so bothered, don't have the party. And don't make recently recovered friends take an lft and turn round and say they can't come when it is positive. That's not a friendly thing to do at all.

Jelly0naplate · 20/12/2021 21:14

Well the rules say you shouldn't test for 90 days after covid unless you get new symptoms so they are following the rules.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 20/12/2021 21:19

COVID couple are correct re 90 day guidance. YANBU to ask the others, it’s just polite these days IMO.

WotgunShedding · 20/12/2021 21:36

You’re only not supposed to take a PCR test within 90 days, not a lateral flow

To make friends lateral flow before party?
WotgunShedding · 20/12/2021 21:37

Ie you are allowed to take lateral flows within 90 days of getting a positive PCR

Bubblty · 20/12/2021 21:39

Your home up to you. They can refuse though

Palavah · 20/12/2021 21:39

I wish people would stop saying you're not 'allowed' to test again within 90 days. What do people think happens if you need to travel? If you want to keep others safe?

Of course they can do a lat flow. See this chart:

This is a great idea. We did it last weekend and didn’t go to a big party on Saturday because they didn’t ask people to LFT. our choice. Everyone was fine about it.

hibbledibble · 20/12/2021 21:41

I'm surprised that if you are concerned about covid, then you are having a social gathering given community rates are so high currently. Lots of people have minimal or no symptoms, and lateral flows have limited sensitivity.

PinkiOcelot · 20/12/2021 21:44

Even my mam’s care home exempt people testing for 90 days after a positive covid infection. They could still test positive but not be.
Are you going to uninvite them?! If you’re that bothered, why are you having a party in the first place?!

Overthebow · 20/12/2021 21:47

You can take a lateral flow within 90 days, it’s the PCR tests that may come up positive.

user1471443411 · 20/12/2021 21:47

Yes if you're that bothered then don't have a party, LFTs are not very reliable.

leotardrock · 20/12/2021 22:06

My lateral flow tests showed negative really quickly after I had Covid - like less than 2 weeks!

waterrat · 20/12/2021 22:08

They won't have covid if they had it 8 weeks ago so yes you are being unreasonable

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 20/12/2021 22:11

They are wrong
PCR can be positive for months after infection so you don't test again within 90 days but LFTs go negative very quickly. No way would they have a positive LFT from an infection 8 weeks ago

Having it 8 weeks ago sadly doesn't now mean they can get it again because previous infection with delta doesn't protect against getting Omicron. I know a fair few people who had delta even quite recently and are getting infected again

I would be pointing out the above and asking them again to test.

Really helpful thanks.

I’m having a party because I want life to continue but we are taking measured risks.

The chart is helpful thank you.

I’ve asked them directly to test anyway but no response!

My lft was negative on day 9 of isolation after a positive pcr so they should be ok to do a lateral flow.
