Am I being an unreasonable adult - 21 year old drama

brookesy1969 · 20/12/2021 17:13

21 year old and 19 year old still living at home
19 year old wants to go to London this week for two days
I’ve said no as I don’t want to risk us and our guests getting covid for Christmas Day
Am I being unreasonable ?
For info we all had covid just before Christmas last year and it was frightening and hideous for two weeks

I would have said yes with tests before and after. The Christmas lights / shops will be memorable.

Eeve · 20/12/2021 17:32

I wouldn't. Bloody rife at the moment. My DSD (21) has just tested positive and she's absolutely heart broken as she feels that she's ruined Christmas.

They can head down after?

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 17:33

As above, he can go after Christmas or be prepared to spend Christmas alone isolating elsewhere if he does catch it if he insists on going. That's what I would say. And I'd insist on tests before and after since it's your house so your rules.

GabriellaMontez · 20/12/2021 17:36

LFT every day. Reasonable precaution. Live life. If he tests positive he goes to his room.

Any of you could pick it up anywhere.

5keletor · 20/12/2021 17:39

I'd say it's best he doesn't, unless you wouldn't all mind isolating over Christmas. Rates are high everywhere, but I've read that London is particularly bad.

cabsavpls · 20/12/2021 17:42

YABU sorry

They need to live their life, they've sacrificed enough already. Plus he's an adult so you can't really be telling him when he can and can't go to London

WWTBCD · 20/12/2021 17:54

I wouldn't be happy with them going, not this close to Christmas.

OneRuleForThem · 20/12/2021 19:44

Oh for goodness sakes., yes YABU.

santaclothes · 20/12/2021 19:45

Are you suggesting he doesn't leave the house until after Christmas?

HippeePrincess · 20/12/2021 19:46

YABU for dictating to an adult

Bitofachinwag · 20/12/2021 19:48

Well, if you live with other people you need to be considerate!
Rexthesnail · 20/12/2021 19:52

Of course you aren't being unreasonable!

Chloemol · 20/12/2021 20:16

YANBU

Returnoftheowl · 20/12/2021 20:31

They are an adult, you can't really stop them. Would you be okay with them going to London then spending Christmas somewhere else (other family or friends)?

Pedalpushers · 20/12/2021 20:37

London right now? Nah, swerve that, people here are dropping like flies this week, it is EVERYWHERE.

What do you mean, you’ve said no? You can’t tell a 19 year-old what to do.
backtolifebacktoreality · 29/12/2021 00:59

@Hunderland

I would have said yes with tests before and after. The Christmas lights / shops will be memorable.

What would you have said/made them do if they'd tested positive on their return?

You can't stop him going but you're within your rights to stop him coming back to your house after his trip to prevent bringing Covid home for Christmas!

Hunderland · 29/12/2021 01:08

@backtolifebacktoreality

There's no government restrictions so they can go. Obviously op can implement their own but the kids are adults.

Put this into perspective. 150,000 cases / 58 million inhabitants.
