Truly sickening!!! What is it with all these stories at the moment?? It's frightening how these people are around children!

MintJulia · 20/12/2021 14:50

And he was supposed to be a carer. Sick!

LlamaParma · 20/12/2021 14:50

WTAF! I’ve read the article and can’t understand why it’s such a short sentence?

PlanktonsComputerWife · 20/12/2021 14:54

With all sentences automatically halved, he'll be out in a couple of years

This is sickening.

WhatANipInTheAir · 20/12/2021 15:28

I'm honestly afraid how many people seem to want to hurt small children. What the fuck.

The4thThe5th · 20/12/2021 16:46

Surely there must be something that isn't being reported. How the hell can this be right otherwise?

MissyB1 · 20/12/2021 16:49

Dh and I had just read this and were stunned at the short sentence Angry
This vile piece of crap will be out in 6 or 7 years! He killed that poor defenceless child ffs!!

musicalfrog · 20/12/2021 16:49

What the actual..

BodgertheJogger · 20/12/2021 16:53

I've heard that at least in some ways it's due to lack of prison places. For every 3 people that are deemed to deserve incarceration, there is only 1 prison place.
High security prisons are incredibly costly and in the past were alot more lenient and more things went unchecked. Ian Brady was permitted to write letters to Myra Hindley for example and cigarettes were allowed.
I'm not saying it's right, in fact I'd say the opposite, but I think that it's a huge reason.

CurryLover55 · 20/12/2021 16:59

😡

jimmyjammy001 · 20/12/2021 17:13

It is really sad, every story lately of a child being killed all has one thing in common and that they are all from broken family's, the parent letting a new partner into their lives and that person killing their child. Obviously something going wrong in social services and them not having the powers to question step parents or investigate without upsetting people and causing offence, it needs to stop before more innocent children are killed.

Suzanne999 · 20/12/2021 17:19

Unbelievable. And he’s described as a care worker, what other vulnerable people did he have access to?
Sentence is far too lenient.

Feilin · 20/12/2021 17:19

They need to build more prisons. Yes im aware staffing yada yada but the sentences are toi lenient and the increase in violent murders of children assault of children and also women and men needs addressed appropriately. It is not ok to assault or murder people. Keys need throwing away.

Hearwego · 20/12/2021 18:46

But they can stop unnecessary prison sentences for other crimes if prison places is the problem.
If you can only get 11 years for killing a vulnerable child, I don’t know what the heck you have to do to get a bigger sentence.
I’m appalled at the sentence.

CremeEggThief · 20/12/2021 18:47

Disgraceful.

SparklyLeprechaun · 20/12/2021 18:50

He actually only got 9 years for manslaughter, the extra 2 years were for child cruelty. Appalling.

oviraptor21 · 20/12/2021 18:51

Nine years actually. Two years for child cruelty are to run concurrently.
I'm wondering if there's a maximum for manslaughter (he wasn't convicted of murder) and whether there were reductions for some reason.
Whatever, it's a horrendously light sentence which I hope will be reviewed.

Theunamedcat · 20/12/2021 18:56

Why not murder? Is it because it wasn't premeditated?

TheWeeDonkey · 20/12/2021 18:59

I guess because he wouldn't admit what actually happened they couldn't prove it was murder?

He looks evil, what a lowlife. I hope he suffers in prison.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 20/12/2021 19:00

You have to be able to prove intent to kill in order to make a murder charge stand up. Simply embarking on a course of action that could result in death is not enough.

SanFranBear · 20/12/2021 19:02

they are all from broken family's

Jesus... really!!

converseandjeans · 20/12/2021 19:20

sanfranbear

There was an article earlier in DM online (so not great source) quoting a study that a 0-2 year old is 100 times more likely to be murdered by step rather than bio parent. Cinderella effect.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.1news.info/moms-news/the-cinderella-effect-why-step-parents-kill-their-partners-kids-981901%3famp=1

^
If you look at the data, for children aged under two in the US who live with one non biological parent, and they are overwhelmingly male because most kids stick with their mums, they are more than 100 times more likely to die from physical abuse and 40 times more likely to be physically abused,”^ he told news.com.au.

CrumpetStrumpet · 20/12/2021 19:28

@SanFranBear The statistics back it up.

Too many mothers let men into their children's lives who they barely know themselves. I say that as a single mother myself. I could not imagine letting a man near my DC until he had proved extensively over a period of time that he was a decent person. Too many people put their own love lives before their children children tragedies like this are the result. That poor little girl. She must have been so scaredSad

3WildOnes · 20/12/2021 19:33

I can’t understand why such a short sentence?! Does anyone have a link to the judges summing up?
In every single case of child murder I have read recently there has been a step parent involved.

Appleseesaw · 20/12/2021 19:38

@XDownwiththissortofthingX

This isn’t quite right. An Intention to cause grievous bodily harm can also suffice for a murder conviction.
