It’s a parking one!

We have a single drive. The house down the street has a single drive and a garage. The house down the street chooses to park their only car directly outside of our house. I know IABU in that they pay road tax, I don’t own the road, etc. but I’m still irrationally irritated by this state of affairs! They could park in their garage, on their drive, or in front of their house. But nope, they park in front of our house! Grrrr!

Are they blocking your drive?

TorySteller · 20/12/2021 14:07

Park your car outside their house Grin

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 20/12/2021 14:08

Park there yourself, they might get the message. Or park in front of theirs..

This sounds an easy one to solve and MAY NOT need a diagram!

IncompleteSenten · 20/12/2021 14:08

Are they blocking you in?
You could always amuse yourself by parking outside their house.

Yummychocs19 · 20/12/2021 14:08

Start taking that space for yourself instead of parking on your drive.

Peanut82 · 20/12/2021 14:09

I think a diagram is definitely needed 😂

Unicornsbumhole · 20/12/2021 14:09

YABU as you have already stated you do not own the road outside of your house, if they are parked legally then can park where they like
Worst parking one yet

AuntyBumBum · 20/12/2021 14:10

I’m still irrationally irritated

Irrational = unreasonable, QED Grin

Next!

TidyDancer · 20/12/2021 14:14

It's a weird thing to do admittedly but they aren't actually doing anything wrong!

sbhydrogen · 20/12/2021 14:15

YABU to expect us to be happy about a parking thread with no diagram

Iom92 · 20/12/2021 14:15

I might start parking there, good idea! I know I am being unreasonable, I did state that in my OP!

OP posts:
Iom92 · 20/12/2021 14:16

I think that’s why it’s bugging me! Why would you do that? If anything, I can’t understand how it isn’t irritating for them! Just seems an odd thing to do!

OP posts:
MindyStClaire · 20/12/2021 14:16

That would annoy me even though I know they're allowed - if they had one car outside their house and parked a second one outside mine I wouldn't mind. Park outside their house for a while, they'll get the message.

Dsisproblem · 20/12/2021 14:38

But... it's just a road. Anyone could park there. I don't understand why anyone cares who parks outside their house if they aren't blocked in.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 20/12/2021 14:42

Park outside their house, not yours.

They don't for reasons of their own. So go annoy them by parking there. Wait and see if they ever get round to saying anything to you about where you park your car...

MsJaneAusten · 20/12/2021 14:42

I think i’d need to ask Grin

“I’m not complaining. I know there’s no parking restrictions here. But why do you choose to park here?”

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 20/12/2021 14:44

Ah! The grown up, neighbourly response 😃
GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 20/12/2021 14:49

Ask them not to?

Also, there is no such thing as 'road tax'.

AuntyBumBum · 20/12/2021 14:52

This makes no sense to those of us who are Londoners, because we just park where we can and are thankful that there's a space at all!

But is it something a bit territorial that drives these feelings? Or because you have to walk a few extra metres to get to your front door? I'm always at a loss to see what actual difference this makes to anyone's life.

ChangeChingyChange · 20/12/2021 14:57

Thats odd. I'd definitely start parking on front of your house til they get the message. How weird to park outside your house then walk down the road to their house instead of just parking on their drive or outside their own house. Odd.

Chely · 20/12/2021 14:59

I'd only be bothered if it made access to our drive difficult as we have a big car.

SirChenjins · 20/12/2021 15:02

It’s an odd thing to do…most people get territory about the road outside their house and like to see their car. To park your car away from your house and then walk back to it seems a complete faff when you have a drive and a garage of your own. It would be like leaving your wheelie bin on the pavement outside someone else’s house and walking to it with your rubbish Confused

rrhuth · 20/12/2021 15:02

I'll be honest - we had a neighbour who did this and we childishly started parking there instead. I would never say anything to them because legally they can park where they like, but a couple of PA parking events and they stopped parking there.

DadDadDad · 20/12/2021 15:03

There is such a thing as 'road tax' - it's just a colloquial term for vehicle tax (and vehicle tax is what the government calls it on their website). We can have a fruitless argument about whether calling it "road tax" is misleading when not everything on the road pays it, but we all know what it means.

Here's a real shocker - some of us even sometimes say "tax disc" even though discs were abolished years ago. On a casual internet forum, why be pedantic about it?
