To ask if you've had DVT what were your symptoms

Had my covid jab last week of November - 24 hours later leg pain started in my right calf (general aching), didn't think much of it to begin with. 24 hours after that the pain moved into my calf and then settled in my right bum cheek!

I called the doctors and they said if there was no swelling, redness or cramp like pain to not worry so I put it to the back of my head.

Today I have woken up and behind my right knee is aching (not cramp, nothing swollen or red or hot or obvious there) it is in the crease at the very right hand side can point to where it aches.

I'm obviously still worried this could be a blood clot although I don't have any 'red flags'

Can anyone offer any advice. I really don't feel it is a 111 situation at this moment in time...

Go to closest walk in centre. Dvt is deadly. Best to make sure it's not that Flowers

worriedlamas · 19/12/2021 17:39

@monkeystockings no close walk ins only A&E I have none of the symptoms online at all only reason it came to my head was the talks of it after the AZ jabs

Both of my parents and our best man are dead because of dvt please get medical attention if you have any concerns.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/12/2021 18:07

Get it checked out now.

It’s often mistaken for cramp in younger people. Very hard to tell. Go to a&e now, and go back again if it doesn’t settle.

I had a clot last year. Swelled up so mercifully obvious, but shocking that it can happen -

worriedlamas · 19/12/2021 18:25

Am trying to find someone to watch DS as no family local.

There is no cramping or 'throbbing' as per NHS website just a very very very slight ache. Wouldn't know it was there if I wasn't thinking about it

Please get this checked out, I had a blood clot on my lung caused by the pill, doctors were surprised that they couldn’t detect any in my legs as apparently this is where they usually are. The symptoms of having one on my lung were breathlessness and extreme sharp pains. It nearly killed me and I spent a week in icu. Please don’t ignore it

worriedlamas · 19/12/2021 18:33

This is my point though attached is NHS pic I have none of the symptoms listed, nor do I have any chest pains etc

The only reason I even thought about it was because of the jab otherwise it wouldn't have crossed my mind.

It may be the time to also point out I have extreme health anxiety....

Our local a&e have asked people not to attend if possible so may try and call 111 later/go to the walk in in the next city tomorrow.

For further context once speaking to the doctors the ache been gone for 2 weeks only came back today.

I've had numerous DVTs in my leg. Symptoms were swelling and severe pain that felt 'deep' (ie. not muscular)...although the last time the leg was hardly swollen at all so its not always the same. Get it checked.

Sn0tnose · 19/12/2021 18:46

My first one had none of the swelling or redness or heat. I had a pain that felt like a pulled muscle and only went to A&E because I have a family history of clots. The triage nurse essentially told me I was wasting their time and there was nothing to worry about. I collapsed in A&E several hours later with a pulmonary embolism for which I had no symptoms. The consultant told me I wouldn’t have made it to the morning if I’d gone home.

My second one, I had no pain at all, just breathlessness. When I eventually convinced them to take me seriously and do a d dimer test, the results were enough to warrant a cat scan, where I was diagnosed with another pulmonary embolism.

A slight calf ache for the third one but, again, no redness, no swelling and no heat. Again, I was told I had nothing to worry about because I had none of the symptoms. Again, a pulmonary embolism.

I’m on blood thinners for life now, so hopefully there won’t be a fourth time, but it’s my experience that you aren’t taken that seriously if you don’t present with the traditional symptoms. My sister had a swollen ankle and went because of our family history. She was fobbed off because she was fit & active, not on the pill and under 30 and was later admitted via ambulance because she couldn’t breathe, due to a pulmonary embolism.

I absolutely don’t mess about with anything that could potentially be a clot, it’s too easy to die. Once diagnosed they’re very easy to treat, but it can sometimes be a bugger to get that diagnosis unless you push for it.

Ilovechinese · 19/12/2021 18:47

I woke up with a pain in my inner thigh and it hurt to walk and I knew I hadn't done anything to pull a muscle and had recently had a baby so thought it was a blood clot and it was. As everyone says go get checked ASAP.

DingleyDel · 19/12/2021 18:48

Which jab did you have ? After my 2nd Pfizer I had awful cramping in my calves. It was really weird. Really intense pressure points of pain. Naturally I was panicking about a blood clot and actually nearly went to a&e. Took some para and did a few stretches and it did ease off but I had it on and off for a few weeks afterwards. I’ve since read of similar experiences on here. They do say muscle and joint pain is a side effect.

Lagomtransplant · 19/12/2021 18:50

My DM had it, painful red left calf, she said it felt like her leg went asleep below the knee, but couldn't shift it. Took her straight to emergency room, she was kept in until the situation was resolved - turned out her gynae just changed her HRT. DO NOT mess with that. Cousin is an emergency room nurse, it was one of the few times I heard her unable to compose a sentence (the cousin is normally an utter sang froid) when we called her from the waiting room for advice.

DingleyDel · 19/12/2021 18:51

Forgot to say, the cramping was intense in 1 of my calves only. Reading this back I’m not sure why I’d didn’t get it checked over. I think because passed off in a few hours.

worriedlamas · 19/12/2021 19:03

Following a warm bath and some stretches the ache has disappeared.

DH gets home at 12 tonight so will keep a close watch out till then and if there is any doubt I'll go to a&e tonight.

If nothing reappears I'll go to the walk in in the morning and try and get there for opening

I severely sprained an ankle a week prior so thought the pain was related to that. It was an intense burning pain in my calf that kept me awake. No throbbing. Skin not red.

Went back to doctor as I knew it wasn't the ankle and something was wrong and they dismissed it as nothing.

My physiotherapist was the one who suspected it when I saw her a day later and she sent me for a ultrasound. The clinic tried to push me out two weeks but I insisted and got in the next day. They found the clot in my ankle, calf and thigh and I was sent straight to hospital. I was also starting to get a little breathless.

My advise would be to go to hospital. Don't mess with these things. I suspected another clot a few months ago (tingly warm feeling and a 'bubbling sensation' And even though it was a false alarm they said I did the right thing by going to A&E

Instead of that are there other private clinics around that will do an ultrasound for you asap?

Frogshoe · 19/12/2021 19:10

I just had a slightly achy leg and dizziness but mine was after surgery so I was still recovering from that. I would get it checked out

LuckyAmy1986 · 19/12/2021 19:11

@Sn0tnose god poor you, that is so bloody scary.

DonttouchthatLarry · 19/12/2021 19:17

I had 2 in my calf and absolutely no visible signs. It was post foot surgery and as I was lying with my foot elevated I just knew the throbbing felt different, as if the blood wasn't reaching my foot. I rang surgeon who told me to go to A&E and say he'd sent me - every staff member I saw that day said they would never have suspected from the appearance of my leg, no swelling, no redness, just pain. I think if I hadn't just had surgery they might have fobbed me off and sent me home.

Badmuthachuffa · 19/12/2021 19:18

Mine started as pain in leg. Thought I’d pulled a muscle at first. Felt very deep and stopped me sleeping. I left it until my whole leg swelled up and I couldn’t walk on it. Also horribly breathless after a couple of days. GP told me I had chest infection and didn’t check my leg. Surprise surprise was DVT and PE. I’d not long had a baby and was ill for ages afterwards. Always best to check it out!

EKGEMS · 19/12/2021 19:20

First one I had severe chills and shaking that hit me out of the blue-normal one minute sick as a dog the next
Second one no symptoms and detected by a vascular ultrasound

Sn0tnose · 19/12/2021 19:29
@Sn0tnose god poor you, that is so bloody scary.
Aww thank you. But strangely enough, it was only scary the first time because I was young and believed that doctors could never be wrong. The second and third time I was prepared to be removed by security if they didn’t do a d dimer test, so I was more stroppy than scared! 🙂

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 19/12/2021 19:32

After giving birth I couldn't support myself on my right leg because my calf hurt so much when I walked. I thought it was just my varicose veins on that side playing up.

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 19/12/2021 19:33

It only hurt when I walked, as far as i can remember. There was no redness or swelling.

dgirluk · 19/12/2021 19:34

I had a clot in the superficial vein (so not deep) after a long flight. It just didn't feel "right". No redness or heat, just not right. Went to A&E (which is soooo unlike me to be untrue), obviously triggered their protocols, and was on blood thinners within an hour or so ! Back the next day for a scan which showed the clot, low dose thinners for 6 weeks IIRC (I might've remembered that wrong).

courtney251 · 05/01/2022 19:31

Original poster can I asked how it went?? I've had an aching calf since last night with a weird on off burning sensation down my leg. Also I suffer with varicose veins and it seems enlarged in that area. I don't know what to do. Shall I go hospital or am I being ott?
