Bash Street Kids (Beano)- Fatty renamed to Freddie, Spotty renamed to Scotty

The Bash Street Kids in the comic The Beano, Fatty was renamed as Freddy a little while ago and now in the most recent issue Spotty is renamed as Scotty.
Appropriate to reflect a more inclusive and tolerant society or “wokeness gorn mad” pandering to snowflakes?
For the purposes of voting only:
YABU: Appropriate to change the names in today’s day and age
YANBU: There was nothing wrong with the old names

Seems fine to me. There's no reason not to.

No objection at all. Why wouldn't they change those names so that children with skin or weight conditions don't feel attacked in a children's comic?

The Beano has a much more diverse cast of characters now too and that's good. They've made changes so that Dennis isn't just a homophobic bully as well.

My kids LOVE the beano. They mostly read old ones handed down or old annuals bought online. But a lot of the names/stereotypes are tricky to explain. Walter and the softies, in particular, reinforce both homophobia and toxic masculinity, so I’m glad they’ve been changed in later issues. I would never let my kids nickname a friend as spotty or fatty now. It really hard with the kindness messages we promote here. The brain has to be allowed to change with the times if it’s going to survive.

The beano has to be allowed to change! Hopefully brains will follow!

Is Plug still called Plug? What about Toots? Loved the Beano especially Minnie the Minx and Roger the Dodger

It’s ridiculous; the names are fine as they are. Anyone sensitive to them needs to think about their own issues and stop projecting.
