To delete all my social media accounts?

Does anyone find having social media (bar MNs as it's more a forum! Grin) has effected their mental health badly?

Do you find it's mostly fake posts or posts like look at me, look at me? Or full of pointless drama. It's really beginning to get me down.

I deleted it once before and felt so much better within a few weeks and kept it up for 6 months (found out I had a lot more time on my hands rather than scrolling through pointlessly and it made me so much happier as a person and as a mother!) but went back on it as I was missing what my family were doing but now they tend to share with me in other ways rather than over Facebook etc.
I've decided my new year resolution this year is delete all my social media and not to return to it. Done it today and deleted everything and I already feel like a weights been lifted.
Anyone else doing this? Or done this already and feel much happier mentally? Grin

I hate SM. The worst part for me is that I avoid the news because it’s so negative and it really affects me, but people feel the need to post about it on SM. I wouldn’t know about those poor babies in the house fire or the misery of covid if it wasn’t for people feeling the need to just share news. They don’t even comment on it, they just share it.

I like Instagram but it’s happening there too and it makes me miserable. The worst has to be MN for that, I find a lot is triggering but I’m a bloody addict and can’t give it up.

I stopped using most social media last year, it got all a bit mental during the first lockdown.

I still use Twitter but I generally only follow news organisations, it's a way of aggregating news stories from different sources. Not interested in comments from individuals.

I haven't deleted my accounts, I think it's useful to keep them open as some accounts don't let you view anything without being logged in, and occasionally it's useful for factual information (e.g. up to date updates on events, checking if a venue is open, researching local facilities e.g. schools).

I'm not on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Snapchat/Tik Tok and I am so much happier for it Grin I honestly don't care what other people are doing, and if someone wants to contact me they can WhatsApp me or better yet call me.
