AIBU to think that it’s a dick move to tell everyone to stop / limit socialising but not put in any additional financial assistance for businesses who lose money because of your advice?

Absolutely

Lorriestakingppe · 17/12/2021 19:21

It's just tragic for the whole industry

shouldistop · 17/12/2021 19:24

Yanbu

SpeckyWithTheGoodHair · 17/12/2021 19:25

It was exactly how it was just before the first lockdown. We weren't told to close but Boris told the general public not to go to pubs and restaurants.

All our pubs were like the Mary Celeste. They're going to have to bring furlough back for those industries they tell cannot trade at all.

The loud voices of the hospitality industry are watching very closely indeed.

SFHJ · 17/12/2021 19:27

I’ve had to cut all my staffs hours as people are cancelling left right and centre! It’s horrible!

Exhausteddog · 17/12/2021 19:30

YANBU.
And I think a lot of people (who can probably easily wfh) are in denial how devastating it is for hospitality and entertainment. Pubs and restaurants usually rely on Christmas events to see them through January when barely anyone goes out. This year more than ever they needed it.

MoonlightFancy · 17/12/2021 19:35

My husband and his parents own a country pub / restaurant and they've had about 75% of Christmas bookings canceled. They are usually jam-packed at this time of year, wall to wall, and are barely seeing two tables a night now. It's very scary.

Sexnotgender · 17/12/2021 19:37

YANBU. It’s fucking ridiculous.

Feel unbelievably sorry for anyone working hospitality right now.

milly74 · 17/12/2021 19:38

Hospitality, thrown under a bus completely

JayAlfredPrufrock · 17/12/2021 19:39

Well I’m still going out but an another thread I’m being accused of all sorts.

Today in Scotland, Nicola said she had found £100m to support impacted businesses in hospitality, tourism etc.

Amazing that she can just 'find' money like that
workwoes123 · 17/12/2021 19:41

Yes.

Nicola Sturgeon, when criticised for being inconsistent by not closing hospitality or events but just recommending that people cancel, postpone and avoid social events pointed out quite correctly that she cannot do that when there are no funds available to compensate those impacted by the closures. So they are stuck in the position of making ‘recommendations’ which do have an impact - but no power to close and compensate.

It’s Tory ideology: commercial Darwinism in action. No wonder Boris said fuck business

IKnowAPlace · 17/12/2021 21:03

Rishi is flying back to sort it Hmm

Apparently that works out about £5k a business which realistically is fuck all.
SpanielsAreMyLife · 18/12/2021 20:25

What I can't understand is how people don't want to sit in a restaurant or bar but you can bet your arse that they're standing in crowded supermarkets this week in long queues to get their shopping and attending massive vaccination centres.

The media frenzy whipping this week has been shocking.
